I could hear my life beep on a moniter, confused and dazed I layed still with my eyes shut, listening for more sounds. The smell of sterilisater proved to me that I was in a hospital, but I didn't know why.
I tried to sit up but a womens voice stopped me in my tracks. "Oh no honey, dont try that", her voice was soft and sweet, I opened my eyes but everything was a blur, "don't panic if you can't see right, that will wear off in a few minutes or so, we had to inject you with a dyed pain anaesthetic, we did this to see if you had hypogenatus" , I could hear her write down something as she spoke, the scribbling of her pen sounded sharp and loud to my sensitive ears, "why was I tested for it?", I knew in an instant that she could hear that I sounded alarmed.
"Well honey you were found passed out with a young boy holding you up, your plastic skin covering was ripped and alarming as it sounds, the boy that was holding you up wasn't wearing any, it's just a precaution, just incase".
I could hear her walk towards my bed and sensed her bending down towards my face, "I don't mean to scare you" she whispered, "but honey you will want to be cautious, if the government get a whiff of this they will want to find that boy, so if you know him, warn him, you'll be fine, the tests came back clear and your skin didn't react to the dye, he either didn't have the disease, or you're immune to it".
She moved away and left the room I heard the door close and what sounded like a lock turning. I tried to open my eyes to see again but still everything remained a blur. I could feel my body grow tired as all my energy faded away, soon sleep came to me.
I was released from the hospital two days later and I couldn't have been happier, I was sick of hospital food and the feeling of cold rubber gloves agaisnt my skin. My mother was more happier then I was, for the whole ride home she spoke about that strange boy and how the house didn't feel like home without me.
"I just don't get why he wasn't wearing plastic covering" my dad sighed, staring into the rearview mirror to look at me, my mother nodded in agreement, "do you know him pumpkin?" I could see his eyebrows lift in the mirror, I just shook my head.
"Has there been any news? " I sighed," well Marys baby came yesterday, the doctors said she'll be a blonde when she's older, and have bright blue eyes but I don't know she looks like she'll have hazel eyes when she's older and well lucy-", "you know what news I'm talking about mum" I cut my mother short, I knew by her playing dumb act that something had happened.
My mother looked to my father before turning around in her seat to look directly at me, "he's home".
