I ran out of my dads car the second he pulled up into our driveway, I waited for him at door as I had again forgot my keys, "hurry dad, please", he just sighed and pulled the keys from his coat pocket.
I ran into the kitchen where I found my mam at the table with a smoke hanging from her mouth and a newspaper in her hand.
"Can I go out tonight, to a friends house?",
"I don't know Ann, with what's going on I don't think its a great idea", she removed the smoke from her mouth and exhaled a cloud of white smoke into the air,
"Please, I wont be home to late" I begged,
"no Ann, maybe when everything cools down, but not tonight",
I sighed and stomped out of the kitchen and up to my room, I pulled all my clothes from my wardrobe and searched through them or something to wear, if she wasn't going to let me out, I was going to sneak out.
After what felt like hours I finally found a decent outfit, my favourite high waist black jeans and a cream crop top, I finished it with cream dolly shoes and winged eye liner, I wasn't a big fan on makeup, so I only ever applied eyeliner and mascara.
After I curled my hair I listened for my parents, they were in the lounge room watching television, the volume was up high so I tip toed down the stairs and snuck out of the back door after I made sure I hadn't forgotten my keys again.
I pulled my phone from my jeans and found Derek's number in my phone book and hit dial.
After two rings he answered.
"I'm on my way",
"ok, well I'm going to leave now and walk towards you, I shouldn't be to late, talk to you soon".
I walked up the familiar roads, always looking behind me with paranoia, I was a little shaken up about the government, everything seemed so surreal, like it wasn't my life, but someone else's.
I looked forward and seen Derek walk towards me, he wore a tight black top and black jeans finished with white converse.
"Hey" I smiled
"you ready to go?",
I nodded and so we were on our way. Derek stopped outside the off license and pulled ID out, "what do you drink?" he asked as if I to was eighteen and legal to drink, "I, I don't drink, I'm only sixteen remember?". He just laughed.
"I can get you something light, if you want, don't feel pressured to drink?",
I looked around me, I felt like a child saying that, so I decided to just live, "that sounds good" I smiled, I pulled the last twenty from my allowance from my purse, he shook his head and held a credit card up, "I got this".
I waited at the door, looking around hoping no one who knew my parents would walk by.
I looked up to the end of the road and my heart stopped, coming up towards me was a white transit van, I told myself to walk into the shop, but my feet didn't obey my commands I just stood there, frozen in my tracks.
Thankfully it jut drove by, I took a gulp and walked closer to the door. A few minutes passed and Derek finally came out with a large brown paper bag and a black plastic one, "I got you a few bottles of a drink called WKD, its light, and there's going to be some drink in the house", I just nodded as I began to feel nervous about going to this party.
The rest of the walk was filled with jokes and just talking about pointless things.
We came to a small white whose with a bright blue door, it stood out from the rest of the estate. It looked empty and reasonably quiet for a house that held a small party inside.
Derek knocked on the door and I waited by his side, rubbing my clamly hands together."Don't be nervous, everything's going to be fine" he smiled.
I just smiled back. The door creaked open and a tall boy with blonde locks of hair stood on the other side.
Apart from being dressed in all black with two rings coming from his lips and a noticeable touch of eyeliner, something looked off about him, like he was scared.
"Eh, come, come on in"he stuttered.
"Lee, is everything ok? " Derek questioned, showing he too had noticed the fear in Lee's eyes,
Lee nodded, looking away before speaking," yeah everythings fine, partys just a little dead is all".
But everything mustn't have been ok as when Lee said all this he lightly shook his head,
"should we leave? " Derek whispered, leaning against the door frame agaisnt Lee," yeah sure, we can play that song later" Lee gulped.
And that was our exit note.
Slowly Derek nodded towards the gate and stared to back away from the door, I followed, Lee continued to speak saying stuff like awh man come on in, the party will kick off soon.
When we got to the end of the garden and just out the gate my eye caught a hold of something at the side of the house.
A white transit van.
