I once saw a documentary on a man who lost his mind and believed that he had to kill a whole bunch of people for the government, but maybe he wasn't crazy, maybe the government wanted him to do so, but I watched as the security cameras caught him pull out a small gun, people began to scream but still he aimed and took fire, my heart stopped each time I witnessed a person being shot and then watching their body fall to the floor, one after one they fell till a police officer barraged in and shot the man in both his legs. I don't ever want to see a person being shot in real life, so seeing the handgun in the man's pocket put the fear of god into me.
"Who is she?" The man asked as his eyes scanned me over and over.
"This is Ann, she's on our side."
The man stood aside and allowed us to enter the towering building. The inside was nothing like it's outer layer. On the outside the building was as old as the rest of the scenario, but on the inside it was breath taking. Gold and silver wallpaper covered the walls that were probably covered in cracks and holes beneath, tables and flowers were scattered all over the shadowing titles that resembled the blackness of the night sky.
People stood at a small bar that sat before a covering of mirrors reflecting the perfection of the interior, to coat it all in one brush, the inside was beautiful. Everyone turned as our footsteps echoed through the ageing building.
"Derek" an old woman smiled as she rushed to him, her blanket of silver flew behind her as her freshly painted nails reached for his hands. She gushed about how she had missed him, before turning to me and smiling.
"Hi, I'm Ann" I smiled, "Oh hello Ann" she took my one of my hands and her other held onto Derek's, "Gloria" she nodded, "Gloria Fields, and welcome to the resistance".
My heart sped up at her words. I had heard about the resistance on the news, many of them attacked one of the governments buildings, the small onset of a war echoed throughout the towns as bullets flew both ways causing chaos to the system as many more people came to the streets to rebel, it ended after three days when one of the governors daughter were kidnapped and returned when one of the rebels were captured in return. I never taught that me of all people would be standing before those people.
"Follow me" Gloria smiled, I nodded and walked along side herself and Derek. I stared to and from the people wondering if they had ever killed someone with the guns that rested at their sides, it was like something out of a movie but the suspense was more terrifying.
We walked up a spiralling set of stairs that was coated in a red carpet, muddy footprints were traced into its fabric, and now mine too.
"You didn't tell me you were apart of the resistance, and I never said I wanted to be" I whispered to Derek as we sat on the velvet covered seats as Gloria excused herself to speak to someone call Dane,
"I'm not, I met Gloria when I arrived her, she helped me and my mother, she taught me all that I need to know to survive in this chaotic world, and now she can teach you."
We stopped talking as Gloria walked back through the double wooden doors with a man who looked in his late thirty's beside her.
"Hello Ann, I'm Dane" he smiled while extending his hand, I returned the gesture and faintly smiled back. "Derek" he nodded and received the same gesture back.
We followed Dane and Gloria into what once must have been a dance classroom as it was covered in mirrors with bars along the middle of them.
crowds of people were seated and stood up as soon as they seen Dane, Derek took a hold of my wrist and led me to two seats at the back. What happened next was bound to change my view on life today, forever.
