Beauty

Loosely inspired by Marilyn Monroe

The sun shimmering on the clear blue waters of the sea,

The smile of someone special,

The song that vibrates the strings of our soul,

All are beautiful,

In different ways.

Beauty can also be a deception,

Golden curls and colorful gowns glamour others,

Giving the illusion of vigor and joy,

To hide the fear of failure and the excitement of future fame,

Unbeknownst to herself.

Much like a dazzling firework,

She blew up into something greater but only for a short time,

And darkness claimed her,

Claimed beauty,

Preserved it as a youthful jewel,

Never to be touched by time.

Memorialized like a handprint in cement,

An impression for the future,

Never to be disturbed,

Only framed.

Beauty never ages,

It is always in a pearl necklace,

A stream of sunlight breaking through branches,

The first fallen snow of winter,

The laugh of a loved one.

Even though these all pass in time,

Their beauty stays imprinted on the mind,

In the heart,

With the soul.

True beauty is measured by the joy it brings to oneself and others,

True beauty is timeless,

And priceless.
