(Inspired by the song: "Origin of Love" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch)
We were one,
Bound together by a force,
Unknown to us.
We were the children of the sun,
Temperamental,
Yet passionate.
What we had evoked jealousy of the moon,
The moon who only stole from our light and used it themselves.
A fork and a spoon,
Angry at us and the children of the earth,
The pair of forks,
And the pair of spoons.
They ripped us apart,
Severing our connection,
Throwing us across space,
Spiraling away from each other.
They struck a pain in our soul,
Cutting a straight line through our heart.
We became two lonely creatures,
With half a beating heart.
We knew then what we had,
We took it for granted;
Love.
Their anger drove us apart,
Threatening to rip us in half again.
But we found each other,
Put together again,
Like two glow-in-the-dark puzzle pieces.
In secret we became the children of the sun again,
Whole and bright.
They taught us what love was,
By abandoning their own love for hate.
We had love before it was love,
And now we have love after they've taken it.Steven Krauss-Akins © 2015
