"Hon," Jennie called her husband, her voice a faint whisper.
"I'm here, love," Lisa said while leaning closer to her to make it easier for him to hear her soft, weak voice.
"Manoban Corporation is safe."
Lisa's expression hardened and his whole body tensed as guilt ate at him deep inside. His wife shouldn't have overexerted herself defending his company. It was his responsibility, not hers. As his wife, she should be living her life free of any worries, especially now that she is pregnant with their firstborns. And yet she protected the Corporation and battled against Eagle despite her fragile health as a pregnant woman.
Although he wasn't a hacker himself, he had witnessed numerous times before how his wife would use up enormous amounts of concentration and also mental and physical endurance during tough hacking battles or complicated programming projects.
She was the type who would become absorbed in her tasks at the expense of her own health. If not for his strict insistence that she take frequent breaks to eat and rest, she would end up locking herself in her computer room for days.
What happened to her tonight was negligence on both Lisa and Jiyong's part. The counterattack against Diana was important, yes, but not as important as Jennie's health and safety and that of the babies. They should have paid more attention to Jennie especially after she insisted on staying near the hotel instead of heading straight home.
"Lisa?" Jennie asked when Lisa didn't respond for almost a minute.
"Hm?" He forced himself to focus on the present, on his wife, and the fact that she and their babies were safe. He could reflect on his and his brother-in-law's lack of foresight later. For now, making his wife comfortable was the priority.
"I said Manoban Corporation is safe. The kids and I defeated Eagle and left quite the damage on them. They should leave your company alone for a while so—"
"Love."
"—you can stop worrying—huh? Yes?"
Lisa reached over with his other hand to caress her hair and cheek while looking at her deep in the eyes. "I know."
Even while lying down on the bed, Jennie still tilted her head to the side. "Someone reported it to you?"
He shook his head. "I just know that you'll defeat Eagle like usual. I have full trust in you. Thank you."
She smiled. "You're welcome. I'm your wife and you're my husband. We're partners in life. I'll always help you whenever you need it and I know that you'll do the same thing for me."
"In a heartbeat," he said without any hesitation. "I'll do anything for you, love. I know that you also feel the same way, that's why you rushed to defend the Corporation against Eagle tonight. But please don't do it again if it's at the expense of your own health. It pains me to see you suffer because of something that I should be responsible for. I can't bear it if you're put in danger because of me."
Her smile faded. She rubbed her cheek against his hand. "I'm sorry. I'll be more mindful and careful next time."
"I'm sorry, too."
They stared into each other's eyes and felt grateful that the other was safe from danger. Lisa was relieved that his wife was safe and didn't miscarry their babies. Similarly, Jennie was also glad that her husband didn't fall for Diana's poisonous honey trap. Their mutual apologies soothed their troubled hearts tonight.
"Just focus on recuperating your health and leave the rest to me, alright?" Lisa said.
She nodded. Her eyelids were growing heavier by the second but she tried fighting sleep to give her husband's hand a weak tug.
"Hm? What is it, love?"
"Kiss me."
He smiled and granted her request. Their lips pressed on each other with the softest, gentlest and sweetest touch. She released a satisfied sigh, but in the next second, her nose wrinkled in disgust.
"You stink. Maybe it's that woman's smell. Wash it off! I hate it."
Lisa stiffened before quickly straightening his body and backing up a couple of steps to put a small distance between them so that she wouldn't smell him anymore. His expression turned ugly. He felt furious and disgusted at the memory of Diana's revolting actions in front of him while he was pretending to be unconscious in the hotel bedroom earlier.
"I'll take a shower. I hate that woman's smell, too. Rest now, love. I'll be back soon."
"Alright. Good night, hon."
"Good night, love." He gave her another light kiss on the lips, very quick this time. Then he kissed her tummy as well. "Good night, babies."
Jennie chuckled at her husband's adorable action and felt her heart growing warmer. She wanted to look at him longer but the sedative kept pulling her back to sleep. Her eyes fluttered close. She fell asleep in no time.
Lisa caressed her face before walking away with great reluctance. He felt so exhausted that all he wanted right now was to just climb on the bed, lie down beside his wife, and fall asleep while hugging her. Sniffing at his clothes, he agreed that he didn't smell good. He needed a shower first before joining his wife on the bed.
"Bam, prepare clothes and toiletries for me. I'll take a shower here."
"Understood, President," Bam replied in an instant through their earpiece channel.
Lisa headed to the couch and sat beside his younger brother while waiting for his assistant to deliver his requested items. For now, he would rest a bit.
"You're still here?" he asked his brother. "It's late. I'll get someone to send you home."
V sighed in relief. "Okay. Thanks, Big Bro."
"En." Lisa was about to instruct his subordinates to form a small team to send his brother home when the door opened again.
This time, a raging old man came charging in like a provoked bull.
"Come here, you two dunderheads! This old man needs to beat some much-needed sense into your pinheaded brains!"
