Jasper Leung felt like he was going crazy. A certain job ad kept on popping up whenever he used the internet. He upgraded his ad-blocker but it was useless. All of the other ads were blocked except for that one specific and persistent job ad. He thought that perhaps his devices had been infected with some kind of computer virus so he brought all of them to a repair shop but the technician couldn't find anything wrong with them. In the end, he could only bring them back home and hope for the best that the job ad would eventually disappear on its own soon.
It didn't.
The job ad kept on stalking him—that was what it felt like. It started to freak him out a little.
Fed up, he borrowed a friend's phone in the hopes of being able to use the internet in peace. At first, it worked. The ad didn't show up at all. He was ecstatic.
About half an hour later, however, the ad popped up again. He showed it to his friend and complained about the stalker-ish job ad, but his friend only laughed at him.
"It think that maybe you've become too stressed out lately after being fired from your dream job and not being able to find a new job until now," his friend told him while patting his back, trying to comfort him. "Don't worry, bro. This is only a temporary challenge in your life. I'm sure that you'll eventually find a good job, maybe something even better than what you briefly had at Manoban Corporation. You have a degree, for goodness' sake! Yes, that Romeo Young is powerful but he shouldn't be that powerful. If he was, then he should be the owner of his own successful multinational company like CEO Lisa Manoban and not just a branch boss. Romeo Young—that pig—can't possibly continue blacklisting you everywhere forever. His influence can only reach so far. He's not even on the same level as CEO Manoban who you admire so much."
Jasper sighed but nodded in complete agreement with his friend's words. He also thought the same way. And also, maybe his friend was right—that he was too stressed out right now after being fired and blacklisted that he had somewhat become paranoid about a job ad stalking him everywhere.
Then his friend commented, "This job ad looks interesting. Why don't you try applying for it?"
Jasper snorted. "It's a scam."
"How do you know?"
"The pay is too good to be true. Even Manoban Corporation doesn't pay that high for that position."
His friend frowned and checked the job description again. "Really? This pay is high? Bro, did your salary expectation also took a hit when you got fired and blacklisted? I may not be in the Public Relations field like you but I still know that the listed salary in this job ad is reasonable."
"Huh?" Jasper took the phone and looked at the salary section. His eyes widened when he saw the completely new figure. "I'm pretty sure that the listed salary was different from this one when I checked the job description before. It was ridiculously high. They must have changed it."
"Or maybe you misread it. You had just been fired that time. Sometimes your brain doesn't do its job properly when you're too stressed or feeling bummed. Hey, it happens."
Jasper didn't look too convinced that he misread it but what his friend said made sense. He felt confused and started to doubt his own memory. Maybe he was really mistaken?
"Let's do a quick search if this White Tigress company is really a scam or not," his friend suggested.
Later....
The friends looked at each other before checking the search results again.
"No matter how I look at it, this company looks legitimate. It's newly established but they already have quite a number of virtual assistants. And look, they even feature great testimonials from some well-known successful people."
Jasper pursed his lips. "Those testimonials might be fake. How could a newly established company already have such great testimonials?"
"Then there is only one way to find out. Let's try contacting these clients if they really hired this company and are satisfied with the service."
Jasper was skeptical. "Most of these alleged clients are well-known people. Not anyone can just contact them. We're just regular people. They won't reply to us."
His friend shrugged. "We won't know if they'll reply or not if we don't try. Besides, we'll only choose the ones who seem easier to contact. Like this person. She's a Hong Kong socialite who married a Chinese multi-millionaire. She's also a bit of a social media influencer. I follow her on Snappygram and know that she sometimes replies to comments and direct messages. Hold on. I'll message her now."
He also messaged the other clients featured on the White Tigress company website who had Snappygram accounts. There were no replies even after half an hour had passed.
"See? I told you. These people won't reply to regular—"
"I got a reply!"
Jasper closed his mouth and leaned closer to look at the message on the phone. Indeed, the Hong Kong socialite—her account verified with an eye-catching check mark icon next to her name—replied to his friend's message and confirmed that she indeed wrote the testimonial featured on the White Tigress company website. She didn't just confirm it but even started praising the company almost to the high heavens.
"The boss is the best assistant that I ever experienced working with ever. He's a little weird...well, actually he's hella weird. But his work performance is out of this world. I tried poaching him but he instantly rejected my offer. He said that his dad is richer than my husband so there's no need for him to work for somebody else when he can be the boss of his own company and have his rich dad's backing at the same time.
"His company also has other virtual assistants that are great. Very hardworking and friendly people, I must say, but none of them are as efficient as the boss. He's like a robot. A cute and hella weird robot. I'm so satisfied with his company's services that I often refer White Tigress to my friends. All of them are as satisfied as me."
