Both Grandpa and Jisoo were not satisfied by the doctor's words. Since they had no idea what was wrong with Jiyong, they also didn't know how long he would be in coma.
"My grandson had an accident a few years ago," Grandpa informed the doctor. "He almost died! No, Jiyong actually died but the doctors in Canada managed to revive him. This old man felt like I've died and revived again like my beloved grandson back then!"
Jisoo gasped. She had heard about Jiyong's serious skiing accident but didn't know the actual details. This was the first time that she heard Jiyong died in that accident and miraculously got revived. She initially thought that it only paralyzed him but wasn't aware that he actually died! Her hand clutched her chest because she was now somehow finding it difficult to breathe.
Grandpa was too busy telling the doctor about his grandson's accident that he didn't notice Jisoo's reaction. "He also fell into coma that time but woke up not too long after. Is it possible that there might be a dormant sequelae that is only manifesting in my grandson now? Tell me, I want to know!"
The doctor thought for a few moments. "That is entirely possible, Sir Jian. However, like I said before, we need to conduct more tests to determine what's really wrong with your grandson."
Grandpa continued to grumble in dissatisfaction but couldn't do anything about it. After the doctor left, he plopped down on the sofa because Jisoo occupied the seat beside Jiyong's bed. He was usually sprightly and seemed younger than his actual age, but at the moment, he looked exhausted and weighed down by everything that happened tonight to two important people in his life. The wrinkles on his skin appeared more prominent as Grandpa's usual liveliness was nowhere to be seen.
The injured Lisa looked much better after taking a shower and changing into fresh clothes. Nevertheless, he looked as tired as Grandpa. He sat beside the old man, not saying anything. There was no need for any words. He only needed to show Grandpa by his actions that they would pull through all of these challenges together.
"Jisoo my girl," Grandpa called. His voice didn't boom like usual.
"Yes, Grandpa?" Jisoo turned around and faced him without letting go of Jiyong's hand.
"It's late already. Why don't you and Chaeng my girl go home? This old man will stay with Jiyong tonight."
Jisoo tightened her hold of Jiyong's hand. "No, Grandpa. I'll stay here."
"Jis!" Chaeng tried to persuade her to change her mind but she refused to budge. In the end, a frustrated Chaeng had no choice but to give in to her best friend's stubbornness. "Fine, you don't have to go to work tomorrow," she said. "I'll give you a day off. I'll handle the tasks that you need to finish in your stead."
Jisoo bit her lip and felt guilty. Orchidia Beauty was extremely busy during this period especially with the upcoming launch of V's men's line of products. Everyone in the company was motivated to work as productively as possible, and yet here she was taking a day off and passing her tasks to her best friend who was also the company's COO.
"Uhm, I—"
"Alright, it's decided then," Chaeng announced. Then she stood up and got ready to leave.
"I'll get my subordinates to escort you home," Lisa said. "It's already past midnight. It's not good for a woman like you to be on the road alone this late."
"Thank you, then." Chaeng accepted his offer without any hesitation. "I drove here but I don't feel like I'm in the best state of mind right now because of all the things that happened tonight. I'm afraid I might crash my car if I insist on driving in this distracted state."
"No problem. I'll have my subordinates drive you home instead. My wife and Fifth Brother being admitted to the hospital are more than enough. We don't need another person to make us worry."
Chaeng sighed. "I know."
"I'm also having my subordinates send my brother home. Is it okay for you to go together with him? If not, I can arrange separate teams to drive each of you."
She looked displeased at the thought of sharing a vehicle with V but still accepted carpooling with him. "Your brother is an annoying prick who always acts like a diva but I still have some things to discuss with him about his upcoming men's line."
"En." Lisa quickly contacted his subordinates and then his younger brother who was accompanying Jennie in the next room with Jae.
A minute later, V entered Jiyong's room to pick up Chaeng.
"Jisoo isn't coming with us?" he asked.
Chaeng curled her lip in dissatisfaction at her best friend's decision to stay. "Stop asking so many questions! Let's go!"
"What asking so many questions? I only asked you one!"
She rolled her eyes, grabbed his arm, and then pulled him to the door. However, she didn't forget to say goodbye and good night to Grandpa, Lisa, and Jisoo. There were so many things that she wanted to say to her best friend but restrained herself tonight. Jisoo was too distraught about the comatose Jiyong to listen to reason right now.
After the two left, silence descended in the room.
Jisoo looked uncomfortable in the chair beside Jiyong's bed but she didn't want to give up the spot. The other two men let her be. Both Grandpa and Lisa were preoccupied with their own thoughts.
The silence was broken by the opening of the door. Haruto entered.
"Second Brother," Lisa greeted, a bit surprised at the man's arrival.
"Haruto my boy," Grandpa greeted next.
Haruto greeted them and Jisoo before immediately going into doctor mode as he examined his unconscious fifth brother on the bed.
