XXIV. 1921
"so how was everyone's night?" The singer asked to no one in particular, following the awkward silence.
The car was stuck behind a collision. One car had went to veer around a corner, but turned too soon and instead of driving down a new street, the nice car went smash into a light post. Poor car. Unfortunate, she thought, but what was even more in unfortunate was the fact a drunken driver soon made things worse after slamming his truck into the already fucked car.
There was now a short line of cars stopped after the chaos. The two runaways and two musicians being one of those cars parked behind it all.
"Very good night, yeah. Decent voice you got there by the way," Andy answered her as he and Katie sat quietly in the back.
"Well I did find her," Vivian chipped in, as she watched some cars turn back down the street, not having the patience to sit in traffic on a late Saturday night, or early Sunday morning.
"Thank you, my uncle used to have a pub out of the city so i was kind of the entrainment,"
"I really liked your voice, wish I could sing," Katie leaned forward, meeting the woman in the front. Gwen, I think, quietly thanked the young girl for the compliment with a small smile.
Vivian was still debating on turning just to keep the car moving and get everyone home.
"So Gwen, you looking for anything permanent," Vivian asked, as she reached into her coat pocket.
Gwen turned to her, "It's Gabriella, or Gabbie. And no, I'm not looking for work,...and I couldn't see myself on stage all night every night."
Andy and Katie remained quiet in the back, kind of, one was fidgeting with her hands, the other tapping his fingers quickly against the door. Both making unnecessary noise. Vivian fumbled with her cigarette case, and pulled on out.
Vivian hummed, "sorry, swore it was Gwen though. Well if you ever need a little job, I can try get you something that will put your voice to use," Vivian didn't know when Tasha was gonna call but til then she'd have to get backups.
"I'll keep in mind," Vivian nodded as she lifted the cigarette to her mouth as she looked for her lighter, and the car was silent once again. The four listened to the late night activities. A lot of car horns. And shouting. Some people laughing, enjoying their weekend.
The Shelby grew inpatient, of the delay and the fact she couldn't find her lighter, and sighed loudly, but was quietly calmed as a hand flew up from the back. Vivian watched as the flame started from the metal thing. It was Katie's hand, bitten down nails and a single silver band on her middle finger.
Vivian, leaning forward, light the cigarette that at balanced on her lip previously, before mumbling a small, "thanks."
It took until the end of her cigarette to final decide to turn and go a different way. She heard a small sigh of relief from the passenger seat as the car started moving. She was sure the two in the back were thankful as well.
"So Katie, did you have a good night?" Vivian asked as the car rolled against the cobbled roads.
"Yes. I did, thank you," Katie replied slowly, meeting Vivian's eyes in the mirror above her, "you?"
