Forks High School. Here they were.

The worst part about going to a new school: the first day.

We'll be fine, (M/N) thought. Their parents had enrolled them and filled out all the paperwork prior to them arriving, so that was done and dusted. They drove around for a bit as they searched for the front office. When they finally found it, they pulled up and went inside, talked to the lady at the front desk, got their timetables, maps of the school, and slips to have each of their teachers sign and bring back to her at the end of the day.

They got back in the truck and drove around to the actual parking lot and Bella pulled into the first empty space she could find. A lot of people were staring. Great.

They hopped out of the car, ignoring the funny looks thrown their way.

"Hey, nice ride," some guy said as they passed. (M/N) couldn't tell if it was genuine or not. He didn't really care.

"Thanks," Bella said.

"Let's go." (M/N) gestured towards the school. He pulled out the map when they reached the front doors. There were always eyes watching them. He could tell it was one of those towns where everyone grew up together, so when new people arrived, it was fairly obvious.

"Wait up, you two!"

The two of them turned to the new voice. A kid with black hair.

"Isabella Swan and (M/N) (L/N), right? Hi, I'm Eric, the eyes and ears of this place. Anything you need: Tour guide, lunch date, a shoulder to cry on."

Bella looked at (M/N) with an 'is this guy serious?' face.

(M/N) shrugged, just as in disbelief as her.

"Um, yeah, no thanks. We're more of the 'suffer in silence' type," Bella said.

"Good headline for your feature. I'm on the paper, and you two are news, front page."

"Please dude, don't have any sort of–" (M/N) started.

"Woah, woah, chillax. No feature then," Eric said.

Bella let out a lengthy breath in relief, then spoke, "Hey, could you point us towards Mr. Varner's class?"

Eric led them away while they tried to ignore the stares.

It wasn't too bad once they got into their classes. They only had a few together, which sucked, but there was nothing they could do about it. At lunch, Bella and (M/N) carried their food trays to a nearby table, along with Jessica Stanley and Mike Newton, two people who became Bella's friends during Volleyball–in a pretty funny way, (M/N) couldn't lie, since Bella had accidentally hit Mike in the head with the ball. Jessica clearly liked Mike and seemed to be both excited to have Bella as a friend and also jealous that Mike was giving Bella attention and not her.

Eric tried to sit next to Bella, but one look from (M/N) let him know that seat was his and his alone.

"So, you guys met my new buddies," Eric said.

"Your new buddies?" Mike questioned.

"It's like primary school again. You guys are the shiny new toys," Jessica said.

(M/N) half-smiled. "Right."

"Hey, I didn't get to ask before, but what happened to your head?" Eric asked, gesturing to the bandage.

(M/N)'s smile tightened. "I tripped over something while I was packing up my stuff to move... and my head hit the ground pretty hard." The last thing he needed was for everyone here to think the new kid liked getting into fights.
