Jessica drove scarily fast, so they made it to Port Angeles by 4pm. Bella was never one to have a lot of girl friends, so (M/N) was not used to the constant pop songs while Jessica talked on and on about the boys she, Angela and Bella hung out with. Apparently Mike had taken Jessica out to dinner, which made (M/N) wonder what his plan was if Bella agreed to go out with him. Jessica said the night out was really good, and she was hoping that by Saturday night they would have progressed to the first kiss stage. Angela was happy about going to the dance with Eric.
Jessica drove them to the one big department store in town, and (M/N) decided to walk around for a bit–not too enthusiastic about watching them try on dresses. That wasn't a guy thing anyway. Plus, he did like that Bella was having some quality girl bonding, and he didn't want to intrude on that. He did hear her ask about the Cullens not showing up before he left.
"The Cullens never show when the weather is nice, Dr. Cullen pulls them out of school and takes them camping and stuff."
That's what Jessica said. It just added onto the strangeness that surrounded the Cullens.
Port Angeles was a beautiful little tourist trap, (M/N) noted. Charlie had picked him and Bella up from the airport here after they left Phoenix, but he hadn't really gotten a chance to admire the surrounding area, since they immediately drove off to Forks. He decided to take a stroll by the harbour. Some stores sold maps for tourists so he decided to pick one up, just to be sure he didn't get lost. It was a bit of a walk to the harbour, but it was definitely worth it once he got to see the view. It was quite relaxing and he found himself sitting at a bench for a while.
Only as it neared sunset did Bella finally call him.
"Hey, where are you?"
"Down by the harbour, you finished?"
"Yeah, Jess and Angela are heading to the restaurant now, but I wanted to quickly hit up the bookstore a few blocks down from the department store before I join them, I'll meet you there?"
"Sure, It'll take me a bit so don't go anywhere."
"Alright, see you soon."
(M/N) got up and pulled the map from his backpack in order to guide himself back. He involuntarily shivered. It was getting slightly cold and he did regret not bringing his jacket, but it felt like something else. He scanned his surroundings. This part of the harbour wasn't very populated, and since it was getting dark less people were out and about. So what was that feeling? Just before he left he spotted a Volvo parked at the other end of the street. It looked a lot like Edward's car.
As (M/N) neared the bookstore, he received a message from Bella.
My phone's nearly out of battery. I'll be waiting outside for you.
He told her he was only 5 minutes away tops and quickened his pace. Definitely should have brought my jacket, he thought as he walked. The sun had completely set by now, the stars coming out as he spotted the bookstore from down the street, but once he got closer he realised Bella wasn't there. The store was closed. She had sent the text 4 minutes ago, so she couldn't have gone far. He looked all around the bookstore, and any nearby places, but couldn't find her. He pulled out his phone again and called her. She didn't answer.
Her phone must be flat, (M/N) theorised. But that didn't explain where she was. He was starting to get worried as he began to search further down the street. Still no sign of her anywhere.
At some point he ended up in an area composed mostly of warehouses and other similar industrial buildings. Basically nobody around. It was dark and while he didn't want to, he checked every alleyway and building backend. Once he reached the last alley at the end of the street and found it empty, he stopped.
