The next night, Charlie and Julie didn't seem surprised to find (M/N), Bella and Jacob sprawled across the living room floor with their books scattered around them, which meant that Billy must have been talking to them. That suspicion was confirmed when Julie announced she had bought pizza for them.

Friday was the garage, and Saturday was homework again. (M/N) and Bella had improved enough that their parents happily left the three of them alone and went out to do their own things. Charlie was probably fishing with Harry, and Julie was visiting her group of friends from the diner.

Jacob started packing his things once it got late, sighing with clear disappointment.

"I probably should go."

"Alright, it's my turn to drive you back," (M/N) said.

"What time do you want us to come up?" Bella asked as the two boys headed to the front door.

Jacob smiled cheekily. "I'll call you first, okay?"

Bella raised her eyebrow. "Sure?"

"Being secretive, are we?" (M/N) asked as they hopped into the truck. Jacob glanced at him, then looked away.

"You'll see when tomorrow comes."

(M/N) watched him closely. "Hey, is everything okay? You've been a bit weird lately."

Jacob met his eyes again, not looking away this time. "No, I'm fine. I'm just getting used to... new things."

(M/N) examined him for a few moments longer. "What new things?"

Eventually Jacob looked away again. He seemed a little.... not flustered, or embarrassed. Confused?

(M/N) sighed "Silence it is..." He started the truck and drove off. It wasn't until they arrived back at the Blacks' house that Jacob spoke again.

"Have you ever liked anyone before?" Jacob asked.

(M/N) narrowed his eyes. "Ever since coming to Forks, people seem to be asking me stuff like that all the time, it's creeping me the hell out. Is this some big conspiracy?"

Jacob laughed. "No, I was just curious."

(M/N) shook his head. "No, I haven't."

Jacob's face showed a mixture of what looked like surprise and disappointment. "Really? Not even Bella?"

(M/N) shrugged. "As family and my best friend, yes I love her. When it comes to romantic feelings... I don't know. I just haven't found the right person. They're probably out there somewhere, though."

"I'm sure they are," Jacob said quietly before hopping out of the truck. "I'll see you tomorrow."

(M/N) raised a hand. "See you."

He spent the first half of the next day waiting for Jacob to call Bella, who he was pretty sure was sitting out in the backyard on a picnic blanket, reading. (M/N) was also reading, but not for fun. He was currently reading A Midsummer Night's Dream. Honestly he was so sick of Shakespeare at this point, he wished his English teacher would just give them something else to do their essay on, but that would be too easy.

Around midday, Bella barged into his room.

"The bikes are done!" she exclaimed.

"Really? He works fast." (M/N) rushed to get ready before running downstairs and out the front door. He hopped into the truck which Bella had already started. Her enthusiasm still confounded him, but he said nothing of it as they drove to the Blacks' house. A splash of colour caught their eyes. The motorcycles, now looking brand new and shiny, were hidden under a spruce, invisible from the house. Jacob ran outside as they hopped out.
