"What do you mean?" (M/N) asked.

"Before we picked you up, Bella told me you two had been theorising about me," Edward said. "I want to hear some of those theories."

(M/N) looked at Bella "Did you tell him any yet?"

She shook her head. "I didn't know where to start."

"Why don't you start at the beginning, you said you didn't come up with them on your own. What got you started? A book? A movie?" Edward probed.

"No. It was the other day, at the beach." (M/N) said. Edward looked puzzled.

"An old family friend was there–Jacob Black," Bella continued. "His dad and Charlie have been friends since I was a baby."

Edward still looked confused.

"His dad is one of the Quileute Elders." Edward's confused expression froze in place. "He told us about his tribe and their legends."

"Go on," Edward said with a level voice.

She told him what Jacob had told them, about the Cullens being something 'different'. (M/N) suspected Jacob purposely withheld the name of what they were, but the longer they talked to Edward, the more he believed they had already found the answer.

"What did you do after that?" Edward asked.

"Well, we did some research online about the Quileute legends, and we found out more stuff about..." Bella trailed off, unsure of whether or not she should say it.

"About vampires," (M/N) finished. He and Bella watched Edward for any change in his demeanour. His hands clamped around the steering wheel.

"And is that your theory?" Edward's voice sounded barely interested, but (M/N) could see the tension in his hands.

"Basically. But... I decided it doesn't matter," Bella said.

"It doesn't matter?" Edward's tone surprised the two of them. His composed mask was gone. He seemed angry.

"No," Bella confirmed. "It doesn't matter to me what you are."

Edward was in disbelief. "You don't care if I'm a monster? If I'm not human?"

"So, you are a vampire?" (M/N) asked. Edward shot him a look and he raised his hands. "Was just making sure."

"You two are unbelievable. You should be scared of me."

"I don't know, saving our lives and trying to keep us out of trouble doesn't sound like very scary behaviour to me," (M/N) said.

"I am curious, though..." Bella started. "How old are you?"

"Seventeen," Edward answered.

"And how long have you been seventeen?"

His lips twitched as he stared at the road. "A while," he admitted.

(M/N) threw in his own question. "I thought vampires couldn't go outside during the daytime."

Edward laughed, and it made (M/N) realise how dumb he sounded, using stereotypes from myths and movies as his baseline of understanding. Well, it wasn't like he had anything else to go off of.

"Yeah, that isn't accurate for us. We don't burn, but we can't go into direct sunlight–or rather we can, but not with anyone else around."

"Why? What happens?"

Edward smiled. "It makes us sparkle." (M/N) thought he was joking, but apparently he wasn't.

"Interesting."
