Wei only felt the pain in his stomach and doubled over as he closed his eyes tightly and gripped his waist. He didn't know that he had been teleported back to the lab, until he saw the floor after he'd collapsed, and realised that there was something else in his body being used to track him. But he was alone without the Spirit who wouldn't be able to find him here, even though he knew where his host was. The whole building was saturated with dark energy from the homeworld to stop Black Robe from escaping, but it also stopped him from viewing inside.
Ouyang was very pleased with his plan, everything was working out the way he wanted. He could now use this man as leverage and the Black Robe Spirit would do anything to protect his host, even blend with him to save his life, or so he thought. But first he would have to show kindness and stop Shen Wei's pain, which was as easy as throwing a switch.
Yunlan's pain stopped suddenly and Ying helped him to sit upright, while Neves remained in the background, recovering.
"You know what he wants him for, can you not do anything to get him back, Lord Black?"
Yunlan shouted at the Spirit, who coldly asked everyone to clear the room, before he slowly turned away from Yunlan, as he fought to stay calm.
"Zhao Yunlan, it is clear to me that you don't know enough about this world you are stepping into. Very rarely have I been drawn to anger, mainly because of a promise I made when humans were first created. Therefore I will forgive your attitude of ' disrespect through ignorance,' but change your manners young man for the benefit of my host. I have watched him suffer during these past three lifelines and ... ... Maybe you should see the effect your presence has had in his recent past life."
The Spirit instantly produced a ball of sizzling dark energy in the palm of his right hand and rapidly spun around as he fired it, hitting Yunlan violently in his chest. He felt the sting and saw the dark power edged with dazzling blue sparks before he passed out, and Black Robe lifted him carefully, placing him on a bed, while he sat beside him and waited. Some time later, Ava tapped the door and entered. She was the only one willing enough to talk to the angry Spirit, and he turned and smiled towards her from the empty dark hollow below his mask.
"Ava young lady. How are you, I heard you were ill, I am deeply sorry over that incident."
"My Lord Black Robe, there was nothing you could have done. It was an unexpected injury. What about Yunlan? In the past he has been bold a few times but never as forward as this one."
Ava asked as she studied him lying asleep and knew that Black Robe had induced the dream to enlighten him in his role after his death. If these two didn't find level ground between them, how would Yunlan accept the role of a volunteer host?
In his dream, the Spirit had taken him back to the time when Wei was arrested and had spent a night in a cell, before he followed his story through the major events. He saw all the doubt and lies he told at the beginning of that relationship with the effects it had on Wei, while he was slowly dying. Ava sat beside Yunlan and dried the silent tears running down the side of his sleeping face, until he reached another tragic part of Wei's life, how he had struggled after Yunlan had died. The next difficult memory was the effect his attempted suicide had on Wei. And his tears continued to flow while Ava stayed beside him. Eventually he reached what he thought was the end of his lesson and woke up, feeling more calm.
"Now we can talk like adults, Young lord," and Ava left the room quietly while Yunlan sat up ready to listen.
"Do you think it was easy for me to watch my host suffer everything he has been through, when I could not help? Nothing has changed. He knew what he was agreeing to when he accepted this role and so must you. In the future when he dies, you will be my volunteer host which could last for two days, or two years or two hundred years, no one knows. Speak, Zhao Yunlan, I will listen."
