Daqing answered the red phone when the call came in and then came out into the main office to explain to everyone why they had been requested for this incident.
"The other office is in trouble, they have a hostage situation with a criminal they can't handle. He is holding one of them and demanding to speak to someone in authority who can give him what he wants, or he'll kill the hostage. The reason they phoned us is because the hostage suggested it."
The staff were confused at the thought of why he wanted them, but Wei immediately understood and knew who it was, even though he didn't know his real name, Detective Wedding Tie. If WT had sent for them then it meant that the person holding him was gifted in some way, and they should move fast. Yunlan still lacked some knowledge and was willing for Wei to take this call.
"This victim is a detective who knows what we do and has faith in our abilities, he's one of the few people who know about us outside of this office. The criminal is gifted but we don't know what his skill is, so would the normal officers stay here for their own safety. We need mind readers and ... Feng, are you here?"
"Yes, My Lord. I was listening."
"Daqing on four feet please and stay out of sight, you're our back up. I'll talk to this man and find out his skill and what he's asking for. Clear out any witnesses or adjust their memories. Does everyone understand what we're doing? If the situation becomes too dangerous, I'll call in the specialists. Check the mobile phones, the last thing we need is to be on the internet."
The black cat appeared from nowhere and jumped into Chu's arms while four officers followed Shen Wei out to their cars. Chu was driving, so now was the best time for Yunlan to admit that he didn't understand everything that was said.
"Can I ask a few questions Xiao Wei while we're here and not in front of the staff, who is Feng? And what did you mean by four feet? And the hostage knows about the department?"
Wei smiled, at last Yunlan was asking the right questions connected with his work.
"Feng is the only ever invisible police officer. He stays in the office until he is needed whether it's a call like now, or personal safety. Four feet is the cat, he can explain it to you when he feels it's the right time. The explanation for the detective would take a lot longer, and when we're at home, I'll tell you the whole story. He knew the last chief in this office before he died, so he's getting older now, must be near retirement."
Yunlan saw a trace of sadness in Wei's face and was willing to wait for that story, he wouldn't have time now anyway because the cars had pulled up outside the police office where most of the staff were, leaving only two or three inside watching on camera.
Shen Wei walked into the main part of the building and announced who they were, and asked for everyone to clear the area. A few stragglers left, disappointed that they couldn't stay to watch, while Wei scanned for anyone else, but it was all clear. He nodded to Daqing who disappeared upstairs to the room where the security cameras were kept, he would be able to watch the recordings and edit them when necessary while the mind readers remained outside, waiting for an order. Feng stayed close to Wei for protection.
Shen Wei took his time and walked slowly into the office followed by Yunlan and Chu. The hostage looked uncomfortable as he was held by his throat, but smiled when he saw Wei approach.
"You don't look much different from the last time we met, more healthy. You survived then?" WT asked.
"Yes Tie, I did with help from a very good doctor and a mystical stone. How's the family? You didn't have another child, only two?"
