"Mum, I need your harsh criticism. On a scale of one to ten, how realistic is it?" Maxine sat at the kitchen counter, showing her mother a drawing of their family owl, Shadow.
Seraphina stared at the drawing before bluntly saying, "6."
Maxine scrunched up her nose.
"Looks like you need to keep practicing more." Remus said as he walked into the kitchen.
Maxine rolled her eyes, replying, "What do you think I've been doing all summer?" She sighed, closing her sketchbook before looking at her godfather. "How long will you be staying for?"
"A few days. I'll be able to drop you off at the platform, since your mother mentioned she had work nearly all week."
"Being a surgeon must be tough, Mum."
Seraphina chuckled, "Yes it is, but it's a very rewarding job."
Suddenly, Maxine froze, an unexpected surge of images flooded her mind like watching one small motion picture unfold. When she tried to take control of the vision to see more, a sharp pain shot through her head, like a long needle piercing her brain. She winced slightly, alerting her mother and uncle Remus.
Once the visions faded, Maxine blinked trying to act like nothing happened. "I'll be right back. I just remembered I need to do something." She jumped off the counter and began running up to her room causing Remus and Seraphina to exchange a confused and worried glance.
Maxine sat down at her desk, placed the sketchpad in front of her, picked up her pencil and she rapidly began to draw the vision before she could forget.
Once she finished, she studied it intently. 'A car... Is it in the sky?' Maxine was racking her brains with the image, she doesn't know anyone that has a flying car. If she didn't know any better, there was a law that forbids others from using enchanted Muggle items or something along the lines.
Maxine closed her sketchpad, tossing it onto her desk before flopping back onto her bed. If trying to control the visions caused her to feel just a tiny fraction of the pain, she couldn't imagine what it would be like once she began practicing to fully harness her seer abilities.
The next day, they were sitting in the dining room eating dinner. Remus and Serpahina asked Maxine what she liked and what subjects she found interesting.
"I like all of them except History of Magic. That class is so boring, even the professor falls asleep often." Maxine paused then looked at Remus excitedly. "Uncle Remmy, I actually used an advanced healing spell."
"Really? Which spell?" Remus asked.
"The Bandaging spell." Maxine said proudly.
Remus stared at Maxine as if she grew three heads, "Wait... you learned it just by reading the spell?" Maxine nodded and Remus continued, "That's outstanding."
Seraphina asked Remus,"I don't understand. What can go wrong if it's not done properly?"
"It can worsen the injury or the bandages and sleeves can be created wrong. Why did you do it in the first place?"
Maxine knew the question would be brought up. She can't lie to her mother and godfather, so she proceeded to tell them everything that happened in her first year at Hogwarts. Seraphina was baffled, and Remus was just as speechless.
"A troll? A three headed dog? A dragon? A giant wizard chess set? And a powerful Dark Wizard by the name of Voldemort?" Seraphina's voice held a mix of shock and concern. Remus didn't flinch at all when Seraphina said the name. That was something she noticed others in the wizarding world did when they heard Voldemort's name.
