"Our love is like a song, you can't forget it."
Harry shuddered into his seat, Ariana's and well, his song that he wrote for her when they were together, played on the radio. The song wasn't what made him shudder, but his lunatic of a girlfriend was what made it unenjoyable.
Every 10 minutes the song played on various radio stations, haunting Harry with that sweet, angelic voice hers. He wanted to hear that beautiful voice of hers again, but he couldn't even hear it from the radio because Gianna, his current girlfriend, had switched the radio station. But much to her dismay, the same song played after a few minutes and feeling flustered and annoyed, she just muted the radio once and for all.
Harry mumbled a few incoherent words as she rolled her eyes and spit a few cuss words herself.
I wonder how Ariana's doing. He thought to himself, but quickly shook his head and focused on the road again, gripping the steering wheel as one specific girl couldn't leave his thoughts once throughout the entire long ride back to his house, and that girl, was Ariana.
"Did you regret ever standing by my side"
As much as Harry wanted to reminisce about the good times between them, he was painfully reminded about all the bad times by his conscience. He was an absolute douchebag to Ariana when she didn't even deserve it, and he knew she noticed it from the very beginning. She just didn't want to admit that they were falling out. There would be moments like when they were spotted out by fans and when they were mostly directioners, Ariana would be left to the side with the occasional fan greeting her and asking for a picture with her as well.
He would glance at her and how uncomfortable she was just awkwardly standing there, since this was when one direction were at their prime and Ariana was just starting to be recognized for her talent. He would feel like saying something, but he'd shake it off and continue with smiles and nods at his fans that surrounded him. He would also turn down her requests to walk red carpets together after a while, claiming he was bored and didn't want to go, any excuse to not go with her to award shows and seek his own fun elsewhere. She'd be left to face the public by herself and have vigorous interviewers ask her where her famous heartthrob of a boyfriend was, reminding herself of the pain she felt when he'd decline standing by her side when she needed him the most. Especially in these situations when her head got the best of her and she'd often need to take a breather to calm herself down.
"So now I guess this is where we have to stand"
After vigorous amounts of months that had passed, Ariana was just starting to accept the break up. She had been in multiple relationships before, but nothing was as bad as this. Nothing had affected her as badly as this, and she was finally starting to move on from it and let herself heal from the heartache he caused her. She had taken a break from social media, always catching herself scrolling through posts about news articles where Harry would be spotted with different girls, all while he was still with the girlfriend after her. She laughed at how gullible the girl was, how she was still trying to hold onto the relationship even after being ridiculed by having everyone see how he was walking all over her. After laughing she turned serious, hoping she could escape the relationship before it hurt her too much like it hurt hers. Before she would start crying after, but now she was getting better and learned to hold the tears in until there were no more tears to shed.
The therapist she started seeing had given her advice on how to keep better track of her emotions and avoid keeping them bottled up when she couldn't cry anymore, which involved writing down how she felt in a journal. She was advised to write down how she felt during her worst times and her best times, always ending any journal passage of what she could improve on and how to improve. Taking into consideration that she was a singer, her therapist also told her that writing songs composed of her emotions would not only help her cope but also make use of her artistic sense as a singer. Ariana took this advice and used it as motivation for a new album.
She was in and out of the studio for months, writing lyrics down and visiting the studio to record parts of it before changing a few lines to perfect it. It took a while to get everything ready, but once she was finish, she felt accomplished at how far she had come. The hurt and pain she felt previously formed her into a better person, and she now felt empowered through how far she had come.
Once the album was released, the public went crazy over it and streamed it constantly. Everyone knew a lot of the songs were about Harry and their toxic relationship, but her fans were overly proud of how she was able to overcome this. Her most popular songs were directly inspired by him, just like "I Don't Care" which spoke about how she felt like she was being held back by how she constantly needed to make the relationship work all by herself, or how she felt she needed to please him all the times in order to keep them going but she didn't care about any of it anymore. Or with "Leave Me Lonely" which spoke about just how dangerous their relationship was and how she had enough of it and wasn't going back.
A song that particularly sparked people's attention was "Knew Better/Forever Boy," in which the first part talked about how he should have known better than to treat her the way he did, and she could do better than him, which she does in the next part that sparked gossip about a possible new guy in the picture. The second part, "Forever Boy" talked about how she found someone who showed her what love actually was and reintroduced her to the happiness she's been wanting, and how she knew he was the one when he helped her through it all. Knowing she's moved on, her fans made sure to tag Harry in posts about it to show him she's better off without him.
"And all the past is just a lesson that we've learned"
With the news that Ariana has found someone else, and was happily in a relationship unlike him who was absolutely miserable after the break up he felt even worse. He's tried to contact her by social media when he realized she changed her number, but he was ghosted. Ariana didn't want him to even think that he was causing her trouble by blocking him, so she let him attempt to get her to respond when she knew she wouldn't ever go back.
She was in a much happier place in a much happier relationship, and she wouldn't change any of it. Yes, she's been through a lot of pain but in the end it benefited her because not only did it form her into a better person with the experience, but she's gained new fans across the world from her album. She was now a household name and living her life the way she wanted, taking her past relationship as a lesson that she needed to learn in order to really know what love is. This also worked as a lesson for Harry, since he grew from the pain as well and took this as a necessary experience to improve himself in the future. He knew what he did and swore to himself not to ever treat anyone like that, knowing how he treated Ariana would always haunt him but ultimately shape him into a better version of himself. Now they're both happy, and although it may not be together in a relationship, their happiness is what mattered the most, and they'd be able to learn from this and use it as a positive experience overall for growth and improvement.
