"Come out you whore!" I shut my eyes tightly, hoping the hollers of my mother would stop.

"I know you're in there!" But the shouting would just continue, that's how it's been continuing since I was 9.

"The longer you keep this fucking door shut, the worst I'm going to fucking beat your cheap ass." This was the 3rd time today.

I ignored her hollers and the bangs on the door that would never stop, as I continued to inspect the marks she left this time.

A bloody nose, a bruise on my temple, a few scratches on my left cheek, along with a bruise forming around my eye, making me look like a complete wreckage.

In only a few seconds, I hear the door bust open and my mother's fuming red face striding towards me.

"You're going to pay for ignoring me, you little bitch." And right as she knocked me towards the ground again, I wanted to slip away permanently.

But I knew I couldn't let her win.

It was my 18th birthday today, and I was not going to let her ruin it for me today.

I got back up, dodging her flying fist that made her even more angrier, but I didn't care.

I quickly pushed her as strongly as I could, making her stumble, and I took this as an opportunity to escape.

I know she would probably use the knife when I got back, but I didn't care.

I quickly ran out of the room, grabbing my bag along the way.

I heard her furious screams coming closer as I unplugged my phone from the charger, so I quickly grabbed both of the items and stuffed them into my bag.

I ran as fast as I could after that, making my way out of the house.

I kept running and running, luckily my high school was only a few blocks away.

After what seemed like a minute of running, I finally slowed my pace and came into a halt once I was in front of the school.

It was pretty early in the morning, only a few students sitting on the benches.

I leaned against a nearby pole to catch my breathe. I remembered the ugly bruises my mother had left on me, so I instantly got my shades from my bag and put them on.

I sighed in frustration, I wanted to cry for help, but I knew I couldn't.

Where would I go?

"Ariana!"

I turn around to see Harry jogging over to me, and I wanted to hide. I didn't even get a chance to cover up my bruises and marks, and I know he wouldn't buy some fake story I made up at the top of my head.

His smile turned into a look of concern, "What happened to your face?"

He raised his thumb to touch my cheek, making me slightly hiss at the pain it triggered.

"I just fell really hard against the concrete. I'm so clumsy sometimes and I can't help it." I fake laughed, hopefully he would buy it. I knew he wouldn't, but I hoped that he would sense my discomfort and let it go.

"Um, okay." He scratched the back of his neck, making me look to the ground in hope he would change the topic.

"I was just coming over to ask if you wanted to..um.. go see a movie with me? I-It doesn't have to be a movie, it could be whatever you want to do, really."

I let out a shaky breathe, seeing his eyes scan me before unexpectedly pulling me into a hug. My mouth fell agape, tears forming into my eyes as I felt his arms tighten around me when I clutched onto his shirt.

I just needed comfort right now, and him, not even knowing my situation, gave me that sense of relief I've wanted for so long.

"I-I just-" he cuts me off by hushing me, letting me know he doesn't need an explanation from me at the moment. I close my eyes, whimpering when he pulls away all of a sudden. I look up at him, only to see him already looking at me with a soft smile as he entertained our fingers while leading us back to his house.

Once we're back, he makes me some tea and sits down by my side at the end of his bed. I lean deeper into his touch, his arms around me from behind while I lean my head against his chest and his fingers caressing my hands.

I've explained to him every detail I could possibly think of, letting it all out making me feel like the weight has been lifted. He just nods and holds onto me tighter, letting me know that I could stay with him until everything is settled.

Being in the same neighborhood as him, he'd always give me a nervous smile when getting the mail or taking out the trash. I found his little antics such a precious thing, wanting to get to know him better, but never getting the chance to.

Now that I'm here, with his chin resting on my head and his soft angelic voice singing in my ear, my stomach is doing all kinds of flips--my mind going to ease and letting me forget about everything for a bit.

The comfortable silence makes me smile, the feeling of Harry's presence getting me all jittery. Looking up, I see his green eyes staring right back at me. His eyes are endearing to stare at, getting lost in them so quickly. They're so bright, enhancing his already perfect features.

I reach my hand up to push back the fallen curl in front of his eyes, tucking it behind his ear which causes him to smile, gosh those dimples--I can't help but admire every little aspect of his, inside and out.

Before I know it, he's holding my face in his hands. The same skin that's been treated with nothing but hate and pain is now being caressed with every single bit of love and care by the man in front of me. Feeling tears form in my eyes, he furrows his eyebrows, wiping away every tear that escapes me.

I feel myself leaning in, and him repeating the action. Once our lips meet, my arms sneak around his neck to pull him closer.

I feel every emotion he puts in, holding me delicately as If I could break any second. We both pull away after a few seconds, staring back at each other.

He reaches up to wipe away the remaining tears, before holding me close to his chest again. I wrap my arms around his waist, wanting to stay like this forever.

"I'll do everything I can to protect you from now on. Nobody will hurt you, not ever again. Not as long as I'm here."
