The evening air was soft, carrying the faint scent of cherry blossoms, drifting on the edge of spring. Hyunjin leaned back against the old park bench, eyes closed, listening to Felix’s soft hum as he swung his legs back and forth. The city lights glowed in the distance, casting a gentle haze over the quiet park.
It was moments like this, so ordinary yet perfect, that made Hyunjin feel like the world had paused for them. Like he and Felix were in their own space, somewhere safe and unbreakable.
Felix noticed his silence and stopped humming, casting a sideways glance at him. “Hyunjin,” he asked softly, a small smile playing at his lips, “what are you thinking about?”
Hyunjin opened his eyes, meeting Felix’s gaze, warm and familiar in the dim light. He always felt a rush whenever he saw Felix’s eyes sparkle that way—like he was seeing the world through his best friend’s wonder.
“Just… this,” Hyunjin replied, his voice almost a whisper. “How… every time I’m with you, I feel like everything else fades away.”
Felix’s smile widened, and he leaned a little closer, nudging him with his shoulder. “You’re so dramatic sometimes, you know that?”
Hyunjin laughed, a deep, easy laugh that echoed into the quiet night. “Yeah, but it’s true.” He hesitated, searching for words to match the intensity of what he felt. He wanted to say so much—that Felix was his everything, that he never wanted this moment to end. But the words felt too small.
“I’m serious,” he said softly, feeling the sudden weight of it. “I don’t ever want to lose you, Lix.”
Felix’s eyes softened as he reached out, lacing his fingers with Hyunjin’s. “You’re not going to,” he whispered, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. “We’re here, Hyun. And we’re going to be here for a long, long time.”
Hyunjin looked down at their intertwined hands, his heart swelling with so much love it was almost painful. There was a quiet vow in that moment, a silent promise he knew Felix felt, too.
“Stay here with me for a while?” Hyunjin asked, his voice barely audible.
Felix grinned and settled back, resting his head on Hyunjin’s shoulder. They sat in comfortable silence, listening to the soft rustling of leaves, their breaths falling in sync, their hands still clasped. Hyunjin pressed a soft kiss to the top of Felix’s head, closing his eyes, feeling the weight of him against his side—a gentle reminder that this was real.
They didn’t need words. They didn’t need anything but this quiet, tender space between them.
And as the stars began to peek through the night sky, Hyunjin made a vow to himself, a promise bound with the same tenderness in Felix’s hand. No matter where life took them, he would never let go.
