"Alex..." Jack whispered curiously.
"Yes babe?" Alex answered, keeping his eyes on the road.
"What the fuck is that noise?"
"Oh uh I don't hear anything?" Alex tried his best to keep his composure but a sly smirk slowly crept across his face.
"There it is again???"
"Uh go check the back seat?" Alex suggested, pulling the car over to the side of the road.
Jack got out, annoyed as fuck, just wanting the scratching noise to stop. The door was frozen shut but after a couple minutes of prying it with a snow brush he found in the glove box, it finally opened. The was a big cardboard box sitting in the middle of the seats. Carefully, Jack unfolded the top of the big cardboard box, and squealed.
"ALEX" He screamed.
"WHAT?" Alex replied, mocking him.
"DID YOU KNOW THEIR WAS A FUCKING KITTEN IN THIS BOX!?!?!?"
"Oh my god are you fucking serious ugh this is the third time this week damn cats wow babe I'm so sorry I'll get rid of him right away"
"YOU'RE THE BEST BOYFRIEND EVER"
"Okay well um if you want it to live you might want to close the door and come back inside" The older boy laughed.
Jack hugged the small brown fluffball to his chest tightly and climbed in.
"There's one condition though" Alex sighed, pulling back onto the road.
"Gifts don't have conditions Alex"
"This one does. It's just a small one"
"Ok, what?"
"You have to name him Jalex" He chuckled, peaking at his boyfriend from the corner of his eye as he tried to avoid the black ice on the road ahead.
"Um..." Jack hummed questioningly, unsure of what that meant, and why it was important enough to be a condition.
"As in Jack and Alex? Jalex? It's cute ok don't ruin my mood"
"Ok ok Jalex it is. He does kind of look like you" Jack giggled girlishly, holding the brown kitten up so he could compare him to Alex, "I think it's the hair"
"He has your gorgeous almond eyes baby"
"I love you Alex" Jack said in a serious tone, staring down at Jalex nestled into his lap, "I know we've been through a lot, and in all honesty we haven't know each other for that long, but I really do love you. After all this shit, I couldn't imagine myself loving someone more. You're my everything. Even when we were fighting, even after you said all those nasty things to me, you were the only thing I thought about. Ever. I tried to love Kellin like he loved me. I really did. But I couldn't. I was useless to him, because I was meant for you. I love everything about you. The face you make when you swipe your fringe out of your eyes. The way you crinkle your nose when you smirk. Every last detail that makes you, you. Without you I'm empty. I don't know how else to explain it Alex. Without you my chest feels hollow. I know it's not. I know I'm still alive. But what's the point in living if I don't have the one thing that makes me happy..."
"Tortilla chips and Andrew Garfield in spandex?"
"You, asshole"
"My asshole is pretty nice isn't it?" Alex tried to laugh, but it came out as a gruff cough instead.
"Please don't make jokes Alex... not right now... it's important..."
"I'm sorry man, you know I'm not good at all this mushy stuff" Alex sighed, his smile fading, he turned to look at Jack, "But always remember that even though I can't say it, you-"
"ALEX THE ROAD"
Jack barely got the words out before the sickening screech of metal on metal cut through the air. Glass shatter as the small car spun off the road and rolled upside down into a small ditch.
Alex felt the warmth of his own blood as it dripped down his face. He couldn't move his neck, but his eyes searched the car. Blood painted the windshield like stained glass, creating a beautifully tragic work of art. Alex's heart pounded and he strained his eyes to look at Jack. He couldn't see much, except the faint outline of the younger boy's body motionlessly slumped over into his own lap. Hot tears washed over Alex's cheeks as he struggle to talk. His mouth was moving but no words came out. He heard panicked voices coming closer to the car. He tried to yell, but pain shot through him with every breath. Slowly he shut his eyes and the voices began to fade, until nothing hurt anymore.
Nothing.
