sunday
12pmmy jeep pulled into the driveway of the first house showing, i immediately noticed theo's range rover there. i had asked him to join me the day the appointment was made, but now it felt awkward as i hadn't spoken to him since the podcast.
i parked the jeep next to his range rover and took a deep breath. i couldn't believe that this was happening. how was i supposed to act normal when i knew that he had most likely seen the podcast?
i stepped out of the jeep, feeling a mix of anxiety and stress. i walked up the driveway towards him, feeling my heart racing.
as i approached his range rover, i saw him leaning against the car, looking at something on his phone. he looked up as i approached, his expression neutral.
"hey," i said awkwardly, not sure how to start the conversation.
he nodded in acknowledgement, but there was a tense silence between us. it was clear that we both knew what was on each other's minds.
i took a deep breath and broke the silence. "i assume you saw the podcast," i said, already knowing the answer.
he cleared his throat, "yeah, i did," he said simply. his voice was steady, "you know, i never liked that cailee."
i was a bit surprised by his casualness, but also relieved that he wasn't angry. "yeah, well neither do i." i said with a scoff. "i can't believe she did that to me. she was supposed to be my best friend."
he shook his head, "it was completely messed up. you clearly didn't want to talk about it."
i appreciated his support, but i couldn't help but feel self conscious. "yeah... it was shitty but what really got me was when she brought your kids up."
he grimaced, clearly not liking that part of the conversation either. "that was messed up. that had nothing to do with the conversation. and honestly, it's none of her business."
i nodded in agreement. "yeah, it sucked. i hate that she brought my past relationships up on national television." i said, feeling the frustration rise again. "and i also hate that she had the nerve to talk about us."
he gave me a half-hearted smile, "don't even take her seriously. she's clearly a bitter person." he said, trying to brush it off.
i shrugged, "yeah i guess, but still... it sucks."
"damn right it sucks." said a voice.
i looked over to see my mom, kris, walking over towards us. "mom? what are you doing here?"
my mom, kris jenner, walked up to us with her usual confident stride. even in her late sixties, she still looked amazing, her short pixie hair was styled flawlessly and her fashion sense was on point as always.
"i overheard your conversation while getting out of the car," she explained. "thought i'd join in."
i shook my head, "right...but what are you doing here?" i asked as i opened my arms to hug her.
kris squeezed me tightly in the hug before pulling away with a serious look on her face. "i'm here to make sure you're making a good decision." she said matter-of-factly. "i'm not about to let you go house shopping without me."
"are you forgetting that i'm thirty?" i said with a chuckle.
kris rolled her eyes, her stern face showing no trace of humor. "age doesn't matter. you're still my baby, and i need to make sure you're getting the best deal."
