I have come back four years after I last made a chapter for this book, which was, coincidentally, also an album review, to now review Shawn's 5th album, Shawn!
Learning that he was going to release an album was shocking for me since after he cancelled his tour, I genuinely thought that we would likely never get music again. I'm glad he's in a place where he feels strong enough and capable of getting back into the spotlight by releasing music. I will say though, an album made up of 11 original songs and 1 cover that barely reaches 30 minutes is certainly . . . interesting.
Considering the fact that he said this is his most personal album to date, I assumed that he would have more to say. The lyrics are basic, which is something that I thought would improve from Wonder. The melodies are very nice though and his vocals are always amazing. I'm extremely proud of how far he's come, and genuinely, it does feel like we all got to grow up together. Becoming a fan of him when he was 17 to seeing where he is now is crazy! I can't believe I've been a fan of his for so long.
If I had to rank the original songs, it would be:
1. Heart of Gold
2. That's The Dream
3. That'll Be The Day
4. In Between
5. Rollin' Right Along
6. Who I Am
7. Heavy
8. Why Why Why
9. Isn't That Enough
10. The Mountain
11. Nobody Knows
Also, I thought it was a funny connection to Sabrina's album with him having a cover of a song by Leonard Cohen. Iykyk.
Anyway, if anyone even still uses Wattpad anymore, what are your thoughts? Was the album worth the wait? What's your favorite song?
