"Why can't I wear this?"I asked holding out a gray cardigan up from my closet.
"Because you are going to ruin the outfit that way," Ruby groaned frustrated.
I sighed as I put it back in the closet. I was in a thigh length V-neck short sleeve green floral dress and white wedges. My hair up in a loose curled bun with a strand down on each side to frame my face.
"But I'm so exposed. What if it get cold?" I questioned having never worn something so short to a party before.
"It's still summer weather. It's not gonna get cold,"Ruby said turning to finish up her makeup in my mirror,"plus I'm sure Oliver will be wearing a jacket you can borrow."
"I doubt he would give me a jacket,"I murmured shutting my closet knowing she wasn't going to let me leave with my cardigan on.
She stopped and turned to look me up and down,"with that on. Yes he will."
Her words causing me to blush at the thought of Oliver liking my outfit. I bit the inside of my lip asking if she was ready to go. She nodded in response so we headed to leave.
"That's new,"my mom commented as we came down the stairs.
"I bought it last week at the mall,"I responded hoping my mom wasn't going to say I needed to go change.
"It suits you sweetie,"she said smiling at me,"are you staying at Ruby's tonight?"
"Yea I think so,"I said grabbing my car keys.
"Okay,"my mom said,"just drive safe."
"Will do mom. Love you bye."
"Love you too sweetie."
We headed out the door and to my truck. Before I could make it to my car I noticed a jeep sitting idling in front of my house. I recognized this jeep.
"Hey ladies," Luke said rolling down his window, "need a ride?"
"Yes!" Ruby said grinning, dragging me to his car.
"I was going to drive," I groaned to her.
"He's a rookie now. Let him drive us," she said pulling on my arm to get in.
"Fine," I said sighing as I followed her into the car, "thank you Luke."
"Anytime," he said as he headed down the street to the party.
I knew Oliver was most likely already there helping set up. It was exciting to know he was going to be there when we showed up. I hope he liked my new dress. I don't normally wear them, definetly never at school. When we pulled up Luke had found an open space along the curb infront of the house. There were already quite a lot of people here and it was already past 8. We got out and headed inside. I sometimes forgot how big Parker's house was as it had been almost a month since I had last been over here.
We entered the foyer and had to navigate around people to get farther into the house. I hadn't seen Oliver and decided to head towards the kitchen. Ruby followed behind me and when I glanced to check on Luke, he was gone.
"Where'd Luke go?"I yelled over the music that was blasting through the house.
"Rookie stuff,"she shrugged.
I gave her a nod of acknowledgment before continuing towards the kitchen. When we walked in all of Oliver and all his close football buddies were standing fixing drinks.
"Holy shit,"Ian said as he watched us walk into the room causing everyone else to turn to see what was so fascinating.
They all had different shades of smiles as they turned that shifted into something else as their eyes all landed on it. I glanced over to Ruby to realize she was standing a decent bit away still not fully in the room. Were they looking at me?
