—real life—The morning after the funeral, Joe dropped Atlas off at the airport and said goodbye. After getting through tsa and waiting in the lounge, taking pictures with fans she got on the plane. During the plane ride, she reread her favorite book My Policeman by Bethan Roberts.
After the long flight, she got a Uber to her house. She unpacked her bags and took a shower. Once she was done, she changed into sweatpants and a shirt. She grabbed her song book and went down to her studio.
She opened it to the song she wrote on the plane and sat it down on the stand. She grabbed her guitar and sat down on the piano bench. She tuned it and started humming the lyrics. She let her mind make up the notes and had her phone on recording:
Atlas pressed paused on her phone and took a deep breath. She got up from the bench and walked over to her other guitars and sat it down. She walked back to the piano and was about to sit down when her doorbell rang. She grabbed her phone and walked out of her studio room and past the kitchen. "Coming." She said walking to the door. She grabbed the handle and opened it. "Oh, hey." She said, leaning on the door.
"Hey, Addie. I didn't know if you were in town. I was driving past and saw your car in your driveway. Thought I'd come and see you." Jack said. She nodded her head. "Did you want to come in?" She asked.
He nodded his head and she moved out of the way. He came in and she closed the door behind him. They went into the living room and sat down on the couch. "Sorry if I'm interrupting anything." He said and she shook her head.
"You're not, JC. I just came back today and I was just in my studio." She explained and he raised his eyebrows. "New song?" He asked and she shrugged her shoulders. "Don't know yet. Wrote it on the plane after the funeral. I was just recording with a guitar." Atlas said.
He nodded his head. "I think you should keep it for yourself right now. I know you know you don't have to share every song but for the mean time, keep it and listen to it. To remind you of the memories." Jack said.
She breathed in and nodded her head. "I think that'd be best. I wasn't even going to release this year. Sometime next year. I'm putting a pause on my work right now." She said.
He smiled at her. "You deserve it. You've been none stop working for years. Between filming, putting out albums and ep's, doing one night only's, and movie premieres." He listed off.
"Thanks." She said. "Did you want something to eat or drink?" She asked him and he shook his head. "I'm alright for now. I don't want to eat your food." He said.
She fake gasped and put her hand on her chest. "What's wrong with my food? Not up to your standards." She said and he chuckled which led her to break character. "I'm joking. I basically have nothing because I've been gone for months. But I do have a phone and a card to order food." Atlas said.
"Good cause I don't want to have to eat beans on toast." He said and she slapped his shoulder. "Fuck off. It's actually better than it sounds. I for one, know how to make it really good." She said and he shook his head. "You will never get me to try that." Jack said.
She nodded her head. "Sure. I'm surprised Jamie never made it for you." She said and he shrugged his shoulders. "He tried once but I couldn't do it. Bailey did though." He said.
"And how'd it go?" She said and he chuckled, thinking back to the memory. "Let's just say it didn't go good." He said and she nodded her head. "Fair enough. Most British delicacies are a required taste."
"Did Tom ever have you try Vegemite?" He said and she shook her head. "I don't believe even he likes it. I think he said in an interview once. Maybe, or I'm wrong. So no."
"Yeah, he definitely told us years ago but I couldn't remember. Second movie, we started filming in 2017. It's crazy to think we've been doing this for seven years so far." He said. "And I just started only a few years ago." She said.
Atlas and Jack spent the next hour catching up and he left. She turned off everything downstairs and went to her room and fell onto the bed. She turned on the tv and watched the newest episode of "Tracker" before falling asleep.
