Dear Jesus,

As I ironed the lavender fit-and-flare chiffon gown I had picked out for the class party, a sudden nauseous wave engulfed me. I was nervous. If You hadn't been the One to set me up to it, for reasons yet unknown to me, Lord, I would rather curl up in bed and spend my night binge reading a book.

I'm still trying to come to terms with some of the events that hit me last weekend.

After Gloria announced her departure to me, I felt sad, of course. I knew I probably would never see her physically again, and I also worried that I didn't fully maximise her time in this plane.

She didn't tell me the details about why she had to leave or why she was in such a hurry. I trailed her into her office and pelted her with so many questions in one breath. You know Gloria. She simply spoke in riddles as always. I think it's a characteristic of heavenly beings. My mind was too overloaded to attempt deciphering what she was saying.

So, fighting back tears, I shut my mouth and helped her pack up her stuff into a box.

She noticed my distress, paused her packing and looked at me with those beautiful golden brown eyes of hers.
"Radiance, you know I'm still with you, right? I'm not leaving."

I wanted to protest and say, "Yes, but I won't be able to see or touch you anymore like this, and I'll miss that terribly."

Instead, I dropped all I was holding and clung to her in a desperate hug. She hugged me back and soothed me while I bit back my sobs.

She muttered some words about how it was expedient that she leave and blah blah blah. Now, I feel the gravity of how the disciples must have felt when they watched you ascend to heaven after your resurrection. It's an unnerving, frightening feeling.

"Next time I'm seeing you, promise me you'll unveil your wings," I said when I broke from the embrace

Gloria chuckled and said, "Radiance of the glory of God, I can't believe I'm stuck with you till the day you die."

I narrowed my eyes at her. "Seriously? It's not even till forever? You'll dump me once I'm no longer breathing? No problem." I huffed and made a show of crossing my arms.

Gloria laughed and ruffled my hair. Pouting, I rearranged my tousled hair.

"Radiance, she said, "I'm going to miss this. But, I have to go." She glanced up. "Direct orders."

I sighed in understanding and made a mental note to ask You later about this whole business of her leaving so abruptly.

"Is this where I get to ask for a double anointing if I see you being taken from me?"

Gloria's face lit up in an incredulous smile.

"Actually, no. You won't see me leave. But, I do have a gift for you. You'll need it."

She shuffled through a leather purse and pulled out something that looked like a teardrop-shaped pink-tinted diamond pendant. She placed it in my right palm and wrapped my fingers around it.

"Promise me you'll wear it whenever you want to go for an important event."

I nodded and hugged her again. I was going to wear this gem perpetually if possible.

I helped Gloria to carry the boxes containing her personal effects to the parking lot where her car was waiting and waved her goodbye when she drove off.

When I entered back into the hospital, I spotted Mr Darlington and some of the other staff members I was a bit familiar with as I made my way to Dr Ryan's office, and said my greetings to them.
