Chapter 27: Confessions

My time in the van lasted longer than I would have liked. It had been around 3 hours since Five left, and I had no idea what the game plan was. All Five needed to do was let me in a tiny bit, and then I'd be able to have a slight idea of what was going on.

All I knew was that the eye played a big part in his plan; figuring out more about the eye would help Five with his next steps. But what were those next steps?

I only had 6 days left, well, technically 5, now that it is 1 a.m. I had only planned on staying for a few hours to make sure that my family was okay and to check if everything was still in motion.

How did I allow myself to let this happen?

A sudden movement from outside the van pulled me away from my thoughts. The street had been desolate, with no signs of life, for a few hours now, so any movement would be detected quickly.

No... They couldn't have possibly found me... unless...

Just as my thoughts clicked together, the passenger door flung open, and 2 hands grabbed onto my leather jacket, pulling me roughly out of the van.

Oh shit.

My body was slammed into the side of the van, and the end of the barrel of a gun was pressed roughly into my forehead. A silencer was attached, meaning they didn't want to draw attention.

As my body adjusted to the cold metal of the gun, and the shooting pain in my back started to fade, I examined the body in front of me, his tall, slim frame towering over me slightly. That's when I looked into the eyes of my attacker.

I knew those brown eyes anywhere.

"Hello Levi," I spoke confidently, a sly smile on my face. I knew that my lack of awareness of the situation would annoy him.

Levi wasn't just some agent I happened to know; he was my old partner before I moved up the ranks. This meant The Commission wasn't playing around; they sent him here for a specific reason.

My thoughts were proven correct as he pressed the gun further into my head, and his other hand went to my throat, stopping my airflow.

"You know," he started, tilting his head and leaning in closer, "when they told me I had been assigned to your case, I couldn't believe it," Levi whispered, trying to taunt me.

"Easy for you to say," I managed to get out. "I'm a little insulted they sent someone as low of a level as you to come and get me. What are you? Still a Level D?" I let out a little chuckle before his grip tightened.

I couldn't help but insult him, even in this situation. Levi was an ass and always thought he was better than everyone but he wasn't, he was just barely average. Ever since I moved up and he remained at the same level, he has always been bitter towards me, but I didn't really care.

Sending Levi either meant The Commission was trying to warn me that more trouble was to come or insult me one last time before my death.

"Oh no, you don't get to talk back this time," his grip tightened again, causing tears to form in my eyes. Levi moved back, curling his lips in a cruel smile.

"You see, Cha-Cha and Hazel were taking too long, and they see you as a main priority. Now they did say I had 2 options: either bring you back or kill you," his brown eyes locked onto mine once more.

Levi was enjoying this way too much for my liking.

"I think we both know which one I'm going to choose, and I'm going to enjoy every minute of this," he released my throat and manoeuvred the gun in his hand, getting ready to take his shot.
