-Start of Chapter 58-
My vision blurs, darkness creeping at the edges, the pain in my hand pulsing in time with my slowing heartbeat. Every breath is shallow and ragged, my chest heaving as I try to stay conscious.
The knife pinned through my palm feels like fire, the blood pooling beneath it warm and sticky against the cool floor. I can't move my hand, can't even lift my arm.
But I hear it—the unmistakable sound of the front door slamming open, its force rattling the walls.
Soobin.
I want to call out, to scream his name, but my throat refuses to obey, my voice trapped somewhere deep inside me. My eyelids flutter, and through the haze, I catch a blur of movement.
"Soobin-oppa" Nari's sing-song voice floats through the air, her head snapping toward the doorway. Her smile stretches wide, her teeth bared in a feral grin. "You're just in time to see how much I love you."
I hear his sharp intake of breath. "Nari, get away from her."
His voice is like steel, cold and sharp, but there's something else beneath it—terror.
I can't make out his face.
"Why should I?" Nari purrs, stepping closer to me. She crouches down, her eyes fixed on mine, her grin twisting into something darker. "She's already broken, Soobin. She doesn't deserve you."
"Soobin..." I try to speak, my voice barely a whisper, but it's drowned out by Nari's laugh.
"Stay still, unnie" she coos, pressing her hand against my shoulder to keep me pinned. "You'll be gone in a few moments. Why not enjoy the show?"
Through the haze, I see him—Soobin's figure moving closer, his fists clenched, his posture rigid.
"Let her go, Nari" he demands, his voice shaking slightly. "This is insane."
Nari tilts her head, her laughter turning shrill. "You don't understand! She's the insane one, Soobin! She's poison! I'm the one who loves you, the one who's been protecting you all along!"
My body feels like it's sinking, the pain in my hand fading to a dull throb as my consciousness starts to slip away. But I fight it, clinging to the sound of his voice.
"Y/N..." Soobin's voice softens, breaking through the fog.
I want to reach out to him, to show him I'm still here, but my body won't listen. My limbs feel heavy, like they're weighed down by lead.
"Step away from her" Soobin says, his tone sharp again. "This is your last chance, Nari."
Instead of stepping back, she raises the knife, her face contorting with rage. "If I can't have you, no one can!"
She lunges toward him.
Time seems to slow as I watch the scene unfold. Soobin moves faster than I thought possible, grabbing her wrist mid-swing. The knife wobbles in her grip as they struggle, his strength pitted against her desperate fury.
The sound of their movements is deafening—the scrape of the blade, their heavy breathing, Nari's guttural screams.
I want to help. I want to stop her. But my vision blurs again, and my body feels like it's shutting down.
"Soobin..." I manage to whisper, my voice barely audible even to myself.
Somehow, he hears me. His head snaps in my direction for a split second, and in that moment of distraction, Nari pushes harder, the blade edging closer to his chest.
"No..." I try to scream, but it's nothing more than a whimper.
I feel tears streaming down my face, mixing with the blood smeared on my skin. I can't lose him. I won't.
But I can't move.
Nari laughs, a wild, chilling sound that cuts through the air like a blade. "You can't save her, Soobin! She's already gone!"
A surge of adrenaline pushes through me. My hand twitches, the pain unbearable but grounding. I force my gaze to focus, my mind willing my body to fight, to do something.
And then I see it—a broken piece of glass within reach.
It takes everything in me to lift my uninjured hand, my fingers trembling as I grasp the shard.
Nari doesn't notice, too consumed by her battle with Soobin, the knife still poised between them.
With the last of my strength, I drive the shard into her leg.
Her scream pierces the air, a sound of pure agony, as she stumbles back. The knife falls from her hand, clattering to the floor.
Soobin wastes no time. He grabs her wrists, pinning her against the wall, his breath coming in ragged gasps.
"Stay down!" he shouts, his voice raw with fury.
I collapse fully against the floor, the glass shard slipping from my grasp. My vision fades again, the world around me growing darker.
Soobin's grip on Nari's wrists tightens, his knuckles white as he holds her firmly against the wall. Her wild screams fill the room, echoing in my fading consciousness.
I hear more footsteps pounding into the house—Beomgyu, Taehyun, Hueningkai, and Yeonjun burst into the room. Their expressions are a mix of rage and panic as they take in the scene.
"Get her out of here!" Soobin commands, his voice trembling but resolute.
Yeonjun strides forward without hesitation, pulling Nari away from the wall. She thrashes in his grip, screaming obscenities, but Yeonjun's strength doesn't falter. Taehyun and Hueningkai move to assist, holding her arms to prevent her from lashing out again.
"Let go of me! You don't understand!" Nari shrieks, her voice hoarse as tears streak her face. "Soobin, I did it for you!"
Beomgyu's eyes land on me, and his face pales. "Y/N!" he exclaims, dropping to his knees beside me. His hands hover over the knife still embedded in my palm, panic evident in his movements. "Oh God, what did she do?"
The sounds around me are muffled now, like I'm hearing them underwater. My head lolls to the side, catching sight of Soobin as he stumbles toward me. His eyes lock onto mine, wide and filled with terror.
"Y/N, stay with me" Soobin pleads, his hands trembling as they cup my face. "Don't close your eyes, okay? Help is coming. You're going to be fine."
The chaos in the background becomes distant—Nari's protests, Yeonjun's harsh words, Taehyun calling for backup—all of it fades as Soobin's voice anchors me.
"Y/N..." His voice cracks, his thumb brushing away the blood and tears on my cheek. "I'm here."
I try to speak, but my lips feel heavy. The world around me tilts, my vision narrowing to a pinprick.
Distantly, I hear the wail of sirens approaching, growing louder with every passing second.
Beomgyu's voice is frantic. "She's losing too much blood. Where's the ambulance?"
"They're almost here" Huening shouts, still holding down Nari with Taehyun.
But before I lose consciousness, I feel it—a warm hand cupping my cheek, a familiar voice calling my name.
"Y/N" Soobin says, his voice trembling. "Stay with me. Please."
I blink slowly, my energy draining fast. The last thing I see is Soobin's tear-streaked face, his desperate expression burning itself into my memory.
I try to smile, but everything goes black.
