Drowning

No one knows
How She's drowning
In her own treacherous thoughts,
Not understanding the mountains
That she climbs just to be happy
As she puts a smile on her face,
And pretends everything's okay.

No one knows
Why she keeps her mouth shut,
Shielding her secrets and feelings
Away from the rest of the world.

When people look at her,
They see a perfectly normal girl
With no cares or worries about
Whether or not her parents will be proud of her,
Or if the only reason you're staring at her is because you're judging her,
Or if anyone can tell that she is confused about who she is.

Sometimes,
She wonders if her friends notice
How she's constantly hurting.
She thinks that they don't,
But they do;
They know the truth;
They know she's hurting;
They know she's in pain.

But they don't know how to help her get better,
Make her smile a real genuine smile,
Laugh a real laugh,
Feel happy.
They feel useless.

And so does she.
She thinks she can't do anything,
Because everything she does isn't right.

I am drowning.
