01. I'll Never Give Up Hope

Alec stood at his window, a diary in his hand while he looked outside, towards the front of the school, seeing most of the students leaving the school to go home.

At the Salvatore School for the young and gifted, the end of the year means many things, for some of us, the end of the year means reuniting with our family.

Alec looked at his sister and best friend, he saw Jayden place his and Mia's bags into the trunk of his car while Hope and Nova hugged Mia goodbye, Jayden and Mia were leaving to spend some time in New Orleans, while Alec, Hope and Nova decided to stay behind this year, for some reason going home this year didn't feel right, something was missing, but what they had no idea what, all they knew was that for some reason, home didn't seem like home this time.

For some of us summer means new adventures, some of us leave the school to explore the world in ways we can't even imagine, everyone moves on, well mostly everyone, some of us can't help but stay behind for a reason unknown to even them.

My name is Alec Salvatore, I'm the oldest son of Damon and Aria Salvatore and the twin brother of Mia Salvatore, ever since school has started all I've wanted was to go back home to New Orleans, but when the time came to go home, something stopped me, why is it that while everyone else has managed to move on, I'm still stuck here? Why do I feel like a very important part of my life is missing? I can't help but keep searching for answers, answers to questions I don't even know, I have my sister with me yet it feels like we're missing someone, why am I surrounded by people but still feel lonely?

Alec walked over to his side table, he picked up a picture frame and looked at the picture, it was a photo of him and Mia with their parents on their wedding day, his dad had Mia on his lap while Aria carried Alec, but Alec's eyes were stuck at the gap between Aria and Damon, Alec had a feeling someone was meant to be there, but who he had no idea.

Nova laid in her bed while talking to Mia through astral projection, who was currently in New Orleans, "So Uncle Kol didn't tell you anything else about this weird contraption?" she asked, looking at the ascendent that was currently in her hands.

"All he said that it's called an ascendent and that me and Alec helped mom make it" Mia informed.

"Did he tell you if it has anything to do with the merge you and Alec have to do?" a curious Nova asked.

"I tried asking but whenever I ask about it he gets this mad look on his face" Mia said.

"He gets mad at you?" a confused Nova asked.

"No, he doesn't get mad at me, but it's obvious he doesn't like talking about whatever this ascendent does" Mia informed, "I think this thing might be attached to some of his bad memories".

"Then it's best to stop asking questions" Nova realised.

"Yeap" Mia agreed.

"So, how's summer in New Orleans going?" Nova asked.

"It's going great" Mia gushed, "Me and Jayden finally came clean to everyone about our relationship, Uncle Nik and Care Bear were ecstatic".
