The First Day

I was so nervous when I woke up this morning, shaking as I saw the sunrise outside my trailer. Today was to be my first day of filming. It was the day where I would show my worth for the whole world to see. If I messed up, then I wouldn't ever get any other acting jobs, and I would have to do something else with my life, like be a teacher or something.

It took me forever to change into simple clothes and walk down to the Hobbit makeup trailer. The other Hobbits were already there and settled down in their chairs, looking less nervous than I was. As usual, this was probably another regular day on set for them. Dominic grinned at me as I pushed some of my tangled and messy hair out of my face. "There's our girl! I was starting to think that you slept in today!"

"Naw, she'd never miss a major day of filming," Sean smiled, turning his chair around so that he faced the mirror. We spent a long while in the makeup trailer. Today we were filming two scenes which required my hair to stay messy a bit. My hairstylist, a fun lady named Amanda, put in some gel to make my curls shine, even though at the end of the day my hair would be even messier. The other Hobbits spent an extra hour on their hair, and since I was done I was tasked with getting everyone breakfast. I was annoyed, but I guess it only seemed fair. There was nothing else to do except for laugh at them while they were getting their wigs on, and that could get boring after a half an hour or so. Us Hobbits had to spent the most time in the hair an makeup trailer, mostly because of our Hobbit feet and ears, so I was able to get most of the good food before the other actors devoured it. The boys ravenously ate their food as their hair was getting finished up, and I sat in my chair in disgust. How could boys always chow down their food without choking? It never ceased to amaze me what boys could do.

The Hobbit feet took forever to put on! I swear we spent an hour or two putting on those horrible things. I already could tell that in the summer those feet would become very sweaty and nasty. We'd be trudging through our scenes with little bacteria colonies living in our Hobbit feet. I shuddered at the thought of the squished up melted heat all over my real feet, but I knew that the boys would be excited for those days. They were up for anything that was an experience for them, even if it was too much for a normal person to deal with.

Right when we finished, Mandy joyfully hopped inside the trailer with my costume, looking fresh and awake at seven in the morning. I don't know how she could do that, the makeup barely managed to make me look even remotely awake. "Good morning you guys!" she chirrped, setting my dress on the chair, "ready to change, Kat?"

I shrugged. "Where am I supposed to change?" The trailer was so small, it barely even fit all of us Hobbits and artists.

Mandy pointed to the curtained corner of the trailer. "I'll make sure the boys won't peak," she grinned, her eyes darting to their shocked, yet smug expressions.

"Hey!" cried Billy, "we'd never do that to her!"

"Yeah!" I could easily tell that Dominic was joking. That smirk on his face gave it all away. I scoffed, snatched the dress from Mandy's hand, and went to change.

As I carefully slipped my shirt off my head, I heard some rusting and I froze. Damn those boys. "Go away, retards!" I yelled. Silence filled the room, until Sean's sudden laughs echoed around the trailer. I grumbled and carefully put on my dress while ignoring him the best I could. It would have been horrible if I messed up either my dress or my hair and makeup. I would have had to spent even longer in here and delay filming time, which was not something I wanted to do on my first day. Trying to push that thought away, I quickly tried to zip up the back of my dress, but I fumbled too much and could barely get it to work. Those stupid Hobbits made me even more nervous and insecure. My face a deep red over the last five minutes, I forced myself to step outside, my whole back basically exposed. Mandy was beaming in delight when she saw me come out. The stylists were smiling at me and munching on the pieces of toast I had retrieved for them earlier. Elijah was the closest one to where I was standing, sneaking some of my leftover eggs. "Hey," I snapped at him, still red in the face, "drop those eggs and help me zip this up."
