Today we had a day off! Well, I mean, us Hobbits had a day off. None of the scenes for the next couple days needed any of us at all. We didn't mind, all that mattered was that we had our first full day to do whatever. After lots of arguing among all of us, we finally decided to venture out to the beach, where the boys would be surfing. Billy had also suggested we spend the night wherever we wanted. At least that was something we all could agree on. One night away from our trailers meant the world at the moment.
I didn't really care much for surfing in California, which the others found crazy since California basically represented it. I loved going to the beach though, even though I didn't swim. The only thing I only did that involved water at the beach was step in the ocean until it reached my ankles. Elijah always hated it, but he learned to accept it throughout the years.
The boys wore their swim trunks and t-shirts while I just decided to wear shorts and a simple t-shirt. I hadn't packed my swimsuit with me, and I wasn't planning on swimming anyway. The whole drive there the Hobbits kept on teasing me and my whole situation with the beach. I let them ramble on until they became too tired to speak, and looked out the window at the changing scenery. They eventually stopped, for they had to keep up their energy for surfing.
They weren't actually that bad at surfing. I didn't really expect them to be that good at it. They all took it as a compliment, but then their happiness for me turned sour whenever I teased them during their huge falls in the ocean. Once or twice they tried to drag me off the comfortable rock I sat on, pulling me deep into the water. "Come on, Love," Dominic shouted, "you have to have some fun!"
I laughed and shook my head. Of course, at that opportunity Elijah pushed me into the water, drenching my clothes and hair. Sputtering and removing my now sandy hair from my stinging eyes, I didn't notice Elijah sweep me up and put him on the board with him. "We're finally going to do something exciting," he muttered to me. Dominic and Billy whooped and cheered like crazy people, and with Sean leading the way we took off.
"Elijah!" I cried, squished up against him. I was so not expecting this to happen. So much for my relaxing day at the beach. "Let me go!"
Sean laughed and they all stood up. Through lots of resisting, I followed their movements and almost lost balance. I had to clutch onto Elijah for my dear life until I felt secure enough. I had to admit, it was actually kind of fun to surf. Doing it with Elijah made it a lot better than I expected it to be. Before I knew it the wave was gone, and I screamed and dumped into the ocean, clawing at the surface for Elijah's board. A warm, strong hand got me back up onto the board, and I looked up to see Elijah's eyes sparkle in amusement. Panting wildly, I saw that spark again.
"Wasn't that fun?!" Now we were both on the surfboard, the lower part of our bodies still in the water but the upper parts resting on his surfboard.
I coughed, salt water suck in my throat. "No." Elijah could immediately tell that I was lying to him, so I put my head down on the board to listen to the calming sound of the sea. I could feel Elijah run his hands through his wet hair, hear him give up a deep sigh as he stared at the horizon.
Our silent moment was disrupted by Dominic, who had padded over with the others. "You're so wet!" he cackled with a mischievous grin plastered on his face, "I saw your face when that wave came; you were so scared!" He imitated my shocked face and the others laughed, except for Elijah. I gave a playful chuckle and swam back to shore.
"Hey! Don't you wanna do it again?!" Billy called out, now sitting on his board.
I looked back and flashed them a goofy smile. "No! Go on!" Good god, there was a sudden breeze that flew through the beach. While walking on the beach, soaking wet through every single piece of clothing I had on, I shivered and watched them have fun. Sean lost his balance on his board and tumbled down into the water, and I could see Billy and Dominic howl in laughter as he scrambled up.
