April, 1984

The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera was thriving under a happy sunny morning as the flowers opened their petals, welcoming the sun's rays, and the trees' buds began to sway in the breeze. The weather was getting warmer, and that meant that lots more outdoor activity was beginning to take place. In fact, that's what Huckleberry Hound was up to on this fine morning. He was standing in the driveway of his house, trying to break a new jump rope record.

"Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen..." he counted softly to himself.

Just then, Hokey Wolf came rounding the corner onto Canine Boulevard, out for a morning walk. "Howdy do, Huck!" he called, when he spotted the blue dog.

"Hi, Hokey!" Huck called back.

"Sure is a beautiful spring day, isn't it?"

"You bet!"

"Trying to break that old jump rope record again?"

"Yeah. I'm gonna see if'n I can make it to a hundred jumps without stopping'!"

Hokey chuckled. "Okay, but if you get bored, you're welcome to tag along with me to Super Family Funland later. It opens for the season today!"

Huck blinked. "Shuckins! That's today? I almost clean forgot! I don't wanna miss it!"

"Me either! They're going to have a season opening banquet too! All the theme park goodies you can eat!"

Huck smiled. "Oh boy. I know Yogi ain't gonna wanna miss that." He patted his stomach and licked his lips. "Matter of fact, neither do I!"

"I can taste those hamburgers and corn dogs already!"

"Yep! They sure are yummy!"

"But not as yummy as ice cream, right?"

Huck giggled. "Y'know it!" He paused and let out a happy sigh. "Nothin' like the springtime to lift your spirits...when everythin's off to a fresh new start!"

"It's also a nice day for walking!" Hokey added.

"And flyin' kites!" Huck chimed in. "An' plantin' new flowers...an' runnin' through the green grass!"

He put his jump rope down and whipped out his cane as he started to do a happy dance, then he began to sing.

"Springtime is the happiest season of all!

The flowers bloom, and the bluebirds come to call!

(Hello, Mr. Bluebird!)"

Hokey smiled and began to join in.

"We'll run around in the sun,

And have lots of fun!
We can go out and play!

Because it's springtime..."

"HOORAY!!!" they both shouted as they ran down the block. Then they started singing together.

"It's springtime once again,

It's another sunny day!

Let's dance, let's sing,

We can do anything,

So, come on,

Let's ring in spring!"

Suddenly, Mr. Jinks came riding down the path on his bicycle, with Pixie and Dixie riding in the basket.

"Hey, fellas!" the cat called out. "Nice day, isn't it?"
