Soohee was lying comfortably on her bed, stretched out on her stomach. Her legs were straight, and her soft, smooth feet were gently pointed toward the air. She was completely lost in a picture on her phone, her lips curling into a peaceful smile as she stared at it. The window was open, letting in a cool breeze that gently played with her hair. The way her hair moved and her smile lit up her face made her look almost magical-like someone who had found love in the purest way.
A sudden knock on the door broke the quiet moment, but Soohee, engrossed in her thoughts, didn't hear it. The person outside, after receiving no response, gently opened the door and stepped inside. Her mother stood still for a moment, captivated by the sight of her daughter's enchanting smile. A warm smile naturally spread across her own face as if mirroring the joy radiating from Soohee.
Quietly, her mother walked toward her, her steps soft and deliberate. Reaching out, she gently ran her hand through Soohee's hair, a tender gesture of love. Startled by the unexpected touch, Soohee flinched slightly and quickly sat up, turning to her mother with wide, surprised eyes.
"Mom!"
Aera smiled apologetically. "Sorry for making you flinch," she said softly, her voice full of concern. "I didn't mean to scare you."
Soohee ignored her, turning off her phone and picking up her book to start studying.
Seeing this, Aera felt a pang of sadness. Her daughter wasn't speaking to her properly-she was still upset with them.
"Soohee," Aera called gently, her voice tender, but Soohee turned her face away from her mother's touch.
"I have exams, so I need to study. Please don't disturb me. Just leave me alone, like you always do," Soohee said, her tone sharp and dismissive.
Aera sighed. "Still mad?" she asked quietly.
Soohee glared at her mother and nodded firmly. "Why wouldn't I be? You guys took my uncle away from me!"
"We had a reason, Soohee," Aera said gently.
