Head Over Heart

3 weeks later, glanced at her phone. She hadn't heard from Javier in forever, probably a couple of months, and, honestly, she was completely tired of it. She was glad he had given her time to think; it made her feel a whole hell of a lot better. And she was glad to have had time to do other things besides being with him 24/7. But she missed him, and she couldn't take it anymore.

She knew it was wrong. She knew she shouldn't even consider taking him back- if he even wanted her back. She'd told herself to resist so many times and it had worked, but today was different. Something felt so different. She needed him. She needed them. She knew that before she had felt the same way. But her logical mind had taken over, as it usually does.

But who says it's always head over heart?

She was ready. She clicked on Javier's name. "Hi." She didn't know what else to say.

3 hours later, Javier replied. Sara's heart raced. Why had he taken so long to reply? She'd started to think she had texted for nothing. That he wanted no part of her, even though she had a feeling that wasn't the case.

"Hey," he said. Sara tried to craft a reponse. She had so many questions- Why did he do all this shit in the first place? What was he thinking? Had he thought about her? And, maybe most of all, why did their breakup feel less like a breakup, and more like a break? Did her feelings actually mean something? She decided she needed to know. But she couldn't say it to him, could she?

Before she could answer, another text came through. "Can I call you?" Javier asked. Sara's stomach dropped. Holy shit. But she had to. "Yes."

A few seconds later, her phone rang. She told herself to be strong. Maybe it wouldn't work out. But as soon as she heard his voice, there was no point in trying to sugarcoat it.

"Hi," she said quietly.

"So... how've you been?" he asked.

"Okay." This was awkward as hell. Couldn't they just get on with it? "I miss you." The words slipped out. Kind of.

"I miss you, too."

"Yeah." What was she supposed to say?

"I think we need to talk." Thank God.

"Me too."

"Do you wanna come over?"

Sara almost laughed at the irony. The one who was the victim is the one who texts first. And then he answers. As much as she didn't want to, she wanted to go. Made a whole lot of sense.

"Okay."
