End of Happily Ever After? ft Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi woke up from the loud knocks on his door. It was really late in the night, so he wondered who it could be. He opened the door to find a ready to blast Shubman Gill. Shubman barged into the room and told Yashasvi to close the door.

"Yash, kya hai ye? Why would you say something like that and throw your own husband to the vultures? As far as I know, Sanju has never put pressure on you to hang your boots. But even if he did, why would you say it to the rest of the world- that's between you two, Yash", Shubman questioned his best friend.

Yashasvi seemed a bit slow in his reaction due to his sleepiness and was about to look at Shubman's phone when Shub said,"You know how much you and I have had to go through for a life together with our partners. Your single statement has set couples like us by a decade, Yashi. I am so disappointed in you. I hope your marriage survives this, but this time don't expect any sympathy from me". Shubman walked out after that.

Yashasvi knew he had f*cked up badly for Shub to be so angry at him. He sat and scrolled his phone and saw his husband's name trending on social media. He clicked on the first link that appeared and was shocked by the news piece.

"Contemplating Retirement Due to Family Pressure": Yashasvi Jaiswal

Senior India batsman revealed in a tell-all interview that his husband, Sanju Samson, was pressuring him to retire from international cricket to take care of the couple's kids. The couple recently had a second child through surrogacy and it seems Samson isn't keen to handle the parenting duties on his own.

It is noteworthy that Jaiswal met Samson when he was just a teenager and got married to him even before he could explore other relationships. Though Samson was his captain at their IPL franchise, it is rumored that he wasn't very appreciative of his husband becoming more popular than him.

Yashasvi has lived an extremely restricted life after marriage and has had his finances controlled by Samson's family even before marriage. This is the first time that he has spoken against the ill treatment meted out to him.

While traditional families try to support each other's success, nontraditional family set ups like that of Jaiswal and Samson seem to survive on exploitation of the more successful partner. It is expected that the board would put restrictions on such relationships in the team, so as to protect the interest of their players.

Yashasvi had a chill running down his spine while reading the article. He had an argument with Sanju earlier that day- he wanted Sanju to leave Yohan at home with a baby sitter and visit him on tour for a week. Sanju had refused to come as the baby was just three months old and he didn't want to take a risk.

He had ended up saying hurtful things like the kids were Sanju's idea and he had no interest in them. Even worse, he had blamed Sanju's insistence on not traveling with him for his lean patch in batting. He clearly remembered what he had said in the end, "I know you insisted on having the second kid, so that you can pressure me into retiring and sit at home taking care of the kids. You always hated it that I was more successful than you".

He should have cancelled the interview that day and rescheduled it to some other day when he was in a better frame of mind. He should at least have had the sense to avoid answering questions about his retirement. But, he had ended up blaming Sanju for everything - his Sanju, who had taken care of him like his own child since he was 18.

"Shub, I need this story killed. I didn't mean to say that", Yash called and told Shubman.

"You weren't caught discussing it in a private conversation, Yashasvi. You looked square at the camera and told them that your husband was pressuring you to retire. There is no killing this story- it has already been widely reported everywhere. I am expecting a call early in the morning from the Board on this. Kyu kiya aisa, Yashu?", Shubman replied.
