Agatha led Charlie to a Kale Kare store close by. Charlie recognized the woman instantly. Imogen was completely obsessed with her skincare products and would gush about Jennifer Kale constantly to him. She would be screaming for the chance to meet her idol.
"Come on," Agatha opened the door to reveal two young woman standing in front of a counter, while Jen was on the other side. "Hey, where do you keep your jade eggs? I'm fresh out of marbles and my pelvic floor is all over the place."
Jen narrowed her eyes, recognizing Agatha immediately, while the customers looked disgusted. "Actually, you gals want to go splitsies on one? Hmm, anyone? anyone?" the two women shuddered, walking towards the door. "Sisterhood of the travelling Kegels? No?"
The moment the two were out the door, Agatha spun around to face Jennifer. "Hi Jen!"
Jen grimaced. "God, Agatha, I haven't seen you since I made a really pointed effort never to run into you again," she rolled her eyes.
Agatha let out a large sarcastic laugh. "So good."
"How are you? Awful?" Jen's smile dropped as she death stared Agatha, who merely removed her sunglasses and continued their staring competition.
"I'm assembling a coven. I need a Potions guy. We're gonna walk the road," Agatha said in her normal voice.
Jennifer Kale was a witch? Not surprising, if Charlie could use potions to make a living in modern day society, he would.
Jen chuckled, before her smile faded. "You're serious? It's a dead end. Literally," Jen walked over to one of the other cabinets and started rearranging her products.
"Oh, come on, Jen. I'm offering you a chance to finally lift the binding spell that has kept you magic-less for the last... what- century?" Agatha tried.
"You look amazing," Charlie tried. When all else fails - use flattery.
"I know," Jen said, still looking suspiciously at Agatha. "What do you care about my magic?"
Charlie sighed. this wasn't going to work. Nobody trusts Agatha. And Agatha had been avoiding Jen long enough not to know anything about her. Unless... Charlie whipped out his phone, scrolling through his messages from Imogen to a news article about Jennifer Kale's lawsuit - Kale Kare Founder Drowning in Class Action Lawsuits. That could work.
"You lost the Darkhold." His attention snapped back up to where Jen was pointing at Agatha's normally colored fingertips. "and now you're powerless and exposed. How far you've fallen, witch killer."
"At least I'm still a witch," Agatha snarked back.
"Like I care about that dusty, warty, snaggle-toothed community," Jen huffed.
"Oh, you don't fool me. You'd chew off your own acrylics to get back into the club," Agatha scoffed. "Ugh. I'm not going to waste my breath illuminating the obvious. Have fun healing the healthy."
Is that it? Was she really going to give up that easily - it's the road. Okay, his turn. Charlie cleared his throat, stepping up to Jen. "Hi, my friend loves your insta page, by the way. She's obsessed with all of your products, and she says you totally minimized the size of her pores," he gushed.
"Who's this?" Jen asked Agatha. Okay, rude. He's right there. "Another child sacrifice?"
Another child sacrifice? Charlie was going to get into that later. "I'm really sorry about your recent legal troubles," he showed the article on his phone, and Jen immediately backed away.
"Yes, I'm aware," she sighed.
Agatha swept over, peering over Charlie's shoulder to read. "Fraudulent misrepresentation resulting in consumer injury," she read out
"I personally would not call superficial burns 'injury' but apparently some people needed skin grafts," Charlie winced.
Agatha gasped. "Oh, Jen!"
Jen sighed. "I haven't been convicted of anything!" she told them.
"Yet," Agatha shrugged. "Historically, we as a group don't do well in courtrooms."
"The charge has a surprisingly lenient penalty. Just like, payouts, and maybe like, five years in prison. But eight hundred counts of it." Agatha let out a gasp of shock, and Charlie winced. "Starts to get a little life-y."
"Wait, so you're magically bound and you're about to get literally bound?" Agatha laughed.
"None of this pedestrian drama would be an issue for a powered-up witch," Charlie reminded Jen.
"You think I haven't tried everything to unbind you, freaky little miscreant!" Jen shouted at him.
"Hey!" Agatha shook her head.
"You've tried everything but the road," Charlie shot back. He reached into his pocket. "If you value your freedom, join us here tonight." He handed Agatha's address to her, before the two made their way to the door.
"Oh! Gonna take a jade egg to go," Agatha grabbed a jade egg on the way out. "You'll know where to find it."
"Thank god for Imogen, right," Charlie laughed. "Two down, two to go!"
"Just one, actually," Agatha said.
"What? Lilia said four names," he reminded her, reaching for the sheet of paper with the names. "Let me see! Let me see-" Agatha shoved the paper in her mouth. "What are you - very mature."
Agatha ushered him down the street. "Come on, Teen. Wasting daylight."
"Okay," Charlie followed after her. "I can't believe you just ate that."
"Ate what? Now I'm actually hungry. I could use a corn dog," Agatha said, her voice muffled.
