"An intriguing match as always," Crowley hummed as he stands up from the table upon his loss, his eyes greedily drinking in the perfectly implemented plan (Y/N) had used through her pawns in a ways he hadn't noticed. "An excellent skill you have even though it has only been a little while since you've mastered the game... how fascinating is that?"

(Y/N) nodded in acknowledgement of his words, but even she didn't understand why she was so good at chess—she just was.

    She could see the formation.

    See the attack patterns.

See the next move through the board.

It was strange, but she didn't think that she minded it, as it gave her brain a distraction from the harsh realities of her world. It allowed her to think freely of something other than her imprisonment, or how terribly she missed her home. In a way, it seemed as if fate was almost mocking her for as soon as such a thought flit through her mind, Crowley noticed the papers of her drawings on the floor, and with a childish grin, approached them.

"What are these?" He mused as he picked one up, his brows raising. "Drawings?"

"Curious, aren't we?" Ferid's eyes narrowed.

    "Is that bad?" He smirked.

    "Depends."

Crowley chuckled at that before then turning his attention back to (Y/N) with a pointed look, awaiting her answer as he placed the papers down on the table. (Y/N) flicked her gaze from Crowley to Ferid and then down to the drawings, her fingers tightening into fists on her thighs at the thought of having to explain her precious memories to her captors. After all, it was likely that they wouldn't even care if she did tell them.

"This... is my family," she sighed, her eyes lidding. "This is my school, my friends..."

As (Y/N) explained each of the drawings, Crowley listened with intrigue, and Ferid even more so. The first time he had witnessed her drawing, she didn't go into as much detail as she was doing right then, and with that, he was able to see how tightly woven those family members and friends and places of hers were integrated into her life. It was clear that she wasn't going to forget them anytime soon, and he found it so silly to the point he almost laughed out loud several times over.

"How fun," Crowley mused, propping his head up with his fist, staring intently at (Y/N). "It's fascinating how you can be so connected to these people you claim as 'family' or 'friends' when you can never really know the true them."

"What do you mean by that?" (Y/N) frowned.

"Exactly as I said," he chuckled, tapping a gloved finger against the paper. "In a heartbeat, any of these people you claim to be so close to would trade your life for whatever they are desperate for—their life, love, or someone far more important to them than you. See, that is the basic notion of every human. Their greed is what fuels them—that selfish instinct that they can hardly ever erase. It's a loathsome reality, isn't it? But, one cannot truly snuff out of the evil nature of humanity, can they?"

(Y/N) fell silent at that.

Ferid and Crowley watched her closely, awaiting her reaction.

Then, she did.

But it wasn't what they were expecting.

"You're right," she finally uttered in agreement with Crowley, keeping her gaze lowered so as not to see their expressions—expressions of disbelief that weren't so surprising considering they had hardly expected her to agree. "Humanity can be evil. Most times, all you ever hear about are the rotten ones. They're the ones who disgust you to the core because of what they do, what they're capable of. Murderers, rapists, terrorists... those who can hurt and kill and steal and lie just because they can... it truly makes one wonder if humanity is worth anything." She paused, then let out a breath, continuing with, "However, in my eyes, at least, I believe that the good outweighs the bad. After all, when given the choice, humans will turn in the right direction."

"Your positivity never fails to astound me, my pet," Ferid crooned in a rather condescending manner, a smirk drawing on his lips. "Humanity is good? Don't make me laugh."

(Y/N)'s frown deepened.

"Oh, don't look at me like that," he snickered as he leaned forward, his fingers drumming against the surface of his desk. "What do you expect me to say, hm? That I agree with you? That I believe humans deserve the chance to rebuild just because I think most of them are capable of making 'good' choices? I think that is far too naive of an outlook, my dear one. Please tell me that this isn't a result of that flimsy ideal of hope you humans hold, right? Hope that you can escape?"

His eyes bored into her own, however she just as quickly averted her gaze.

She knew her answer.

And she knew he wouldn't like it.

"Come now, Ferid," Crowley hummed, his eyes lidding the longer he stared at (Y/N). "Don't be too aggrieved. After all, she is a human herself, isn't she?"

"I suppose so."

"I look forward to our next chess match, (Y/N)," Crowley announced as he then stood up and adjusted his suit, Chess and Horn quick to follow suit. "Until then."

With that, he was gone.

However, his curiosity remained.

Ferid watched Crowley leave, his eyes narrowing to slits whilst his smile dipped. He had no need to keep up his mask anymore, and now that it was only himself and (Y/N) in the room, he didn't mind this as much. He could tell in the way Crowley looked at her that he was much too interested in her mannerisms and the way she spoke. If he didn't deal with that soon, he knew it would be a problem that would spiral too far out of his control to manage.

He crossed his arms.

And that...

That is not ideal.
