Gujarat opener Urvil Patel smashed a 28-ball century in the shortest format, the second-fastest overall in T20s and the fastest by an Indian, exactly a year after shattering the second-fastest 50-over century by an Indian. at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), India's domestic T20 competition, at Indore, Urvil accomplished this feat against Tripura.

Sahil Chauhan of Estonia holds the record for the fastest T20 century, having reached it in 27 balls against Cyprus in Episkopi, Cyprus, in June of this year. In January 2018, while batting alongside Gautam Gambhir for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh in the SMAT, Rishabh Pant set the record for the fastest century by an Indian, reaching three figures off 32 balls.

Gujarat easily defeated Tripura in 10.2 overs on Wednesday after chasing 156 thanks to Urvil's undefeated 113 off 35 balls, which was laced with seven fours and twelve sixes. One of the sixes sailed over square leg, four over the midwicket area, three in the 'V' down the pitch, and three over the covers. Mandeep Singh, the captain of Tripura, who had relocated from Punjab prior to the current season, was hit for four of those twelve sixes. Sankar Paul scored 17 off four balls, Abhijit Sarkar scored 26 off nine balls (four fours and a six), Mandeep scored 24 runs off just five balls, and Manisankar Murasingh scored 28 runs off ten balls thanks to a four and a three sixes from Urvil.

Just one day after being released by Gujarat Titans (GT) in advance of the 2024 auction, Urvil hammered a 41-ball century in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy on November 27 of last year. After Yusuf Pathan's 40-ball feat, he was ranked second among Indians in terms of fastest List A hundreds. After failing to play any IPL 2023 games with GT, Urvil was let go.

Urvil did not appear in the 2025 super auction, but his name was on the list of uncapped wicketkeepers.
