(QUINN'S POV)

I couldn't believe it. Out of everything that had happened, the danger, the stakes, the tension between us, she just asked me that...

Of all things, right now, Lila decides to ask if I like her? My brain practically short circuited. Really? This is what we're talking about?

But as I looked at her, trying to gauge whether she was serious or just messing with me, I realised... maybe, just maybe, this was one of those things we couldn't avoid. Not anymore.

Lila was staring at me with this weirdly innocent expression, like she was waiting for a real answer. But I could see the corners of her mouth twitching, like she was trying not to laugh at the absurdity of the whole situation. And, honestly, it was kind of funny.

"Are you kidding?" I laughed, shaking my head, still not entirely sure if she was pulling my leg. "Now? Of all times, you wanna talk about that?"

She didn't back down. In fact, she leaned forward, crossing her arms like she was waiting for a real response. "Yeah, I mean, you found braces, pigtailed, glasses me,cute? She raised an eyebrow. "I'm genuinely surprised."

I blinked at her, trying not to chuckle at how ridiculous she was being. I couldn't help it though, she had a point. I mean, that Lila? Braces, pigtailed Lila? I might've had a thing for her back then, but I certainly didn't expect her to call me out on it now.

"Really?" I raised an eyebrow, trying to keep my voice serious, though I was failing miserably. "You want to bring that up now? You want to talk about our past crushes while we're, you know, trying to take down Clint?"

She laughed, and I couldn't help but smile. "Blame your ex best friend Clint for bringing it up," she shot back.

"Alright, alright, let's just... not talk about this right now," I said, putting my hands up like I was giving in. "If everything goes well, we'll talk about it after. But right now, we need to focus. This—" I motioned around the room, "—isn't the time or place."

She nodded, still smiling. "Fine. Later. But after all this... when we're free of Clint, and everything is done."

"Exactly. Now, let's get back to work. We've got what we need. We just need to—" I paused, glancing at the photographs and evidence on the table. "We need to get Clint."

Who's ready to get Clint?
I know I am.
