Dangerous Affection

SIDE CHAPTER ONE:Movie Night Mayham

(LILA'S POV)

I was starting to regret letting Quinn pick the movie.

"Come on, Lila," he teased, plopping onto the couch beside me, the remote in his hand. "You survived a hospital takeover, but a little sci fi horror is too much?"

I clutched the blanket tighter around me. "It's not the horror part, Quinn. It's the gross out alien thing. I don't need to see something crawling out of someone's chest."

He gave me a mock horrified look. "You're a nurse! You've seen worse."

"Not alien worse!" I shot back, throwing a pillow at him.

He caught it mid air and smirked. "Fine. If it gets too intense, you can hide behind me. Just try not to drool on my shoulder."

I rolled my eyes but couldn't help smiling. "Big talk for someone who screamed during The Conjuring."

His smirk vanished, replaced by an exaggerated look of betrayal. "That was a strategic yell. Completely different."

"Sure it was."

As the movie started, I couldn't help sneaking glances at him. His focus was entirely on the screen, his jaw set, his expression determined to prove how unbothered he was. When the first alien popped out of nowhere, I let out a squeak and buried my face in his arm.

"Told you," he whispered, his voice smug.

I smacked his shoulder but didn't move away.

By the time the credits rolled, I was half asleep against him, my earlier terror forgotten. Quinn turned off the TV, his arm slipping around me.

"See? That wasn't so bad."

I mumbled something incoherent, and he chuckled softly.

He stayed there for a moment, pulling the blanket snug over both of us, his warmth settling against my side. "Guess that's a win for me," he murmured, his voice quiet.

I felt his smile even as I drifted off, completely at ease for the first time in a long while.
