(LILA'S POV)
The night air was crisp, and the stars seemed brighter than ever. Quinn had dragged me out to some clearing he claimed was "perfect" for stargazing, and I had to admit, he wasn't wrong.
"You're awfully quiet," I said, leaning back on the blanket he'd brought.
"I'm thinking," he replied, his voice low.
"About?"
He glanced at me, his face unreadable in the moonlight. "Just... how we got here. All of it. How close we came to losing everything."
I reached out and laced my fingers through his. "But we didn't. We're still here, Quinn. That has to count for something."
He squeezed my hand and smiled, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "You make it sound so easy."
"It's not," I admitted. "But you're stuck with me now, so you might as well get used to it."
He laughed softly. "Stuck, huh? Pretty sure I'm the lucky one."
The way he said it, so sincere and unguarded, made my heart skip.
I tilted my head, grinning. "What, no sarcastic comeback?"
"Not this time," he said, leaning closer. "I think I'll let you win this one."
The kiss was soft, tentative, like we were both still figuring out this new normal. But it was perfect.
Above us, the stars burned bright, and for the first time in a long while, everything felt right.
