The door burst open with a loud bang, shattering the calm atmosphere. Mama stormed in. Her gaze locked onto Amra's.
"TASLEEM!! TASLEEM!!!" She shouted, her voice echoing through the house. "Where have you hidden her?" She demanded.
Amira's eyes widened in surprise, startled, her lips pouted in disapproval. She swiftly stood up. And said, "Subhanallah, what kind of trouble is this?" She wondered how Tasleem had lived all those years with a wicked woman like this.
Mama pointed a finger at Amira and snapped, "You shut up there, I'm not here for you, but for your mother!"
"TASLEEM!! TASLEEM!!! TASLEEM!!" She continued shouting, she pushed a vase beside her, and it Shattered into pieces.
Amira could almost see a raging fire in Mama's head about to explode. She could only stare, wide-eyed and helpless, at the scene unfolding before her eyes.
Mamie and Tasleem rushed downstairs.
Mamie looked around at the mess Mama created in just a short time.
Mama glared at Tasleem.
Out of instinct Tasleem took a step back in fright. Her face was very pale as though she was sick, She was trembling, tears immediately wobbled in her eyes. Her chest tightened in fear!
Mamie positioned herself between them. a protective glint in her eyes. She wept a cold glance at her and said, "Don't you have manners? You barge in here, shouting---"
Mama cut her off, she roared at her in displeasure. "Do I look like someone with manners to you?" She sneered. "I've come to take Tasleem away. Or have you not yet decided?"
Amra watched with a sly smile spreading across her face, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Mamie's expression remained firm, her voice unwavering. "She's not going anywhere,"
Mama's face contorted in anger, her hands on her hips. "Don't underestimate me," she warned, "I'm capable enough to destroy your lives." Her eyes were red with rage, and her chest heaved vigorously as though she was experiencing an asthma attack.
"Have you ever seen a married woman leaving her marital home? Or you don't have that knowledge?"
Mama's smirk faltered, confusion etched on her face. "What are you talking about?"
"Tasleem is married to my son Rayyan."
Mama's eyes widened in shock. She stuttered, "M-married?" Out of ideas of what to do next, Mama became anxious.
This was not the outcome she expected.
'What am I going to do? I've already been paid... No...no...I have to do something.' Mama thought.
"Yes you heard me right. Tasleem is my son's wife."
Amra's world crumbled around her. Not quite sure of what she was hearing. She was completely stunned!
What was going on? Did she hear right? Her heart seized at Mamie's words. An intense fear overwhelmed her.
Her eyes blanked out. She couldn't see clearly for a second. Her eyes darted around. Her face turned deathly pale. And she felt dizzy.
Mamie turned to Amira, saying, "Call the gateman to throw her out."
Amira hurriedly rushed out.
Amra's lips parted in a silent gasp. Her chest rose and fell with shallow breaths. Her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed to the floor with a thud and fainted.
Tasleem and Mamie rushed to her side.
"Amra." Mamie exclaimed, shaking her.
Mama swiftly headed out and ran to the servants quarters and closed the door behind her.
