Prompt: Vivian decides to play hero.

The night had been calm, the kind of peaceful stillness that blanketed everything in safety. The house was quiet save for the hum of the refrigerator and the occasional rustling of leaves against the window. Shibhon stirred in her bed, shifting slightly beneath the covers, only to be startled awake by the sound of a crash downstairs.

Her heart raced as she bolted upright, her senses on high alert. She barely had time to process the noise before Vivian's voice came from the other room.

"Shibhon? You heard that too, right?" Vivian called, her voice low but edged with concern.

"I'll check it out," Shibhon replied, slipping out of bed.

But before she could even make it to the door, the heavy sound of footsteps reached them, followed by a chillingly familiar voice.

"Shibhon," R*ger's voice dripped with malice, sending ice through her veins. "Did you think you could humiliate me like that and just get away with it?"

Her blood ran cold as she saw him step into view, a gun gleaming in his hand under the dim light of the hallway. Behind her, Vivian froze, her eyes darting between the weapon and R*ger's twisted smirk.

"R*ger, don't do this," Shibhon said, her voice trembling but firm. She positioned herself in front of Vivian instinctively. "You don't have to—"

"Shut up!" he barked, his grip tightening on the gun. "You ruined my reputation. Now I'm going to take something from you."

The click of the safety disengaging echoed louder than any sound she'd ever heard. Time slowed as R*ger raised the gun, his focus locked on Shibhon.

"NO!" Vivian shouted, shoving Shibhon aside. The deafening crack of the gunshot rang out, and Shibhon watched in horror as Vivian stumbled back, a dark stain blooming on her shirt.

"Vivian!" Shibhon screamed, catching her as she crumpled into her arms. The blood felt hot and sticky against her hands as she lowered them both to the floor.

R*ger's smirk widened as he took a step back, the sick satisfaction of revenge written all over his face. "This is better than I imagined," he sneered, retreating toward the door. "Enjoy living with this."

Shibhon's cries filled the air as he disappeared into the night, leaving her alone with Vivian, whose breaths were shallow and labored.

"Viv..." Shibhon whispered, her voice breaking. She pressed her trembling hand over the wound, desperate to stem the bleeding. "You're going to be okay. Stay with me, please."

Vivian's eyes fluttered open, her lips curling into the faintest of smiles despite the pain. She raised a bloodied hand, brushing her fingers against Shibhon's tear-streaked cheek.

"I... love you," Vivian whispered, her voice barely audible.

"No, no, no," Shibhon pleaded, fresh tears streaming down her face. "Don't you dare leave me."

But Vivian's hand fell limp against her cheek, her eyes slipping closed as her body stilled in Shibhon's arms.

The world seemed to shatter around her. The night, once so peaceful, now felt unbearably silent, save for Shibhon's heart-wrenching sobs.

And as the weight of the moment pressed down on her, Shibhon clutched Vivian tighter, her grief a raw and unrelenting force, vowing in her heart that R*ger would never get away with this.
