Prompt: Winter convinces Autumn to bake cookies with him for the kids at the Nursery.

The kitchen was already a flurry of activity by the time Autumn wandered in, her hair in a loose ponytail and her expression skeptical. Winter stood at the counter, surrounded by bags of sugar, flour, and chocolate chips, his apron sporting a cheerful “Kiss the Chef” slogan.

“You’re joking,” Autumn said, crossing her arms.

“I’m not,” Winter replied with a grin, brandishing a whisk. “The kids deserve homemade cookies. And it’ll be fun!”

Autumn raised an eyebrow. “My idea of fun doesn’t include making a mess in the kitchen.”

“You mean you don’t want to spend quality time with your husband?” Winter countered, feigning a wounded expression. “Fine, I’ll do it myself. But just think how impressed everyone will be when they hear that Autumn Fortune-Knight baked the cookies.”

She rolled her eyes but grabbed an apron from the drawer. “Fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you when these end up tasting like charcoal.”

Winter beamed. “That’s the spirit!”

It didn’t take long for Autumn to prove her point. While Winter measured ingredients with precision, she accidentally dumped an entire bag of flour into the mixing bowl. When Winter handed her a whisk, she managed to splatter batter across the counter and his shirt.

“This is why I don’t cook,” she muttered, glaring at the streak of chocolate on her cheek.

“You’re doing great,” Winter teased, swiping a bit of batter from her face and tasting it. “See? Perfect already.”

Autumn fought a smile but refused to let him win that easily. “You’re insufferable.”

“And you’re adorable when you’re flustered,” he shot back, earning a half-hearted swat on the arm.

An hour later, the cookies were finally in the oven. Autumn leaned against the counter, arms crossed, watching the trays with a mix of curiosity and dread.

“They’re not going to explode, are they?” she asked.

“Only one way to find out,” Winter said, pulling her into a side hug.

When the timer dinged, Winter carefully retrieved the trays, revealing cookies of...questionable appearance. Half were misshapen blobs, and the other half had faces that Autumn had attempted to decorate. Most looked like they belonged in a Halloween special.

“Well,” Winter said after a long pause. “They have...character?”

Autumn snorted, finally laughing. “They look like they crawled out of a nightmare.”

“True,” Winter agreed, holding one up to inspect. “But let’s taste them before we judge.”

They each took a bite, and Autumn blinked in surprise. “Wait. These are actually good.”

“Good?” Winter said, feigning offense. “They’re amazing. You’re a natural.”

Autumn rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her small, proud smile. “Don’t push it.”

The next day at the nursery, the kids devoured the cookies with enthusiastic compliments. When one of the children declared, “Miss Autumn, you’re the best baker ever!” she shot Winter a look that said don’t you dare.

Winter just grinned, mouthing back, “Told you so.”

And for once, Autumn didn’t argue.
