Last round tonight boys and girls. Holy smokes. Someone pinch me, I'm dreaming. Rookie year and I'm sitting 2nd in the world and leading the top earnings of the NFR and the average.
"How are you feeling?" Kelsey asked me as we each laid on our beds resting up for the round tonight.
"Nervous yet excited" I said rolling over and looking at her.
"Don't be nervous. If I was to bet on any horse and rider combination you and Ace have my vote!"
"Aww thank you! I'm surprised we haven't hit a barrel yet. We usually can hardly keep them up."
"Hey Reece. Stop it. Ace is feeling his wheaties! He's ready to win you the world." Kelsey said smiling.
"You always know what to say"
"It's a gift" she said smirking.
Because of a down barrel last go round Kelsey moved to 8th in the world.
"How long do we have?" I asked.
She opened her phone, "2 hours"
"Ugh. Better get dressed." I said pushing myself off the bed and walking to the closet that held all our clothes.
I pulled out my bluish purple shirt, my dark wash Seven For All Mankind jeans, my card tin haul boots, and my black felt hat. I put it all on and looked at myself in the mirror, oh this is a selfie outfit, I thought to myself.
Kelsey put on her HOT pink shirt and dark wash Rock and Roll cowgirl jeans. Her Lane boots with pink details and her leopard felt hat.
We left our hotel room and locked the door. And as we walked out so did John and Case.
Haven't really talked to Case after the night we went waking.
"Hey can you take a picture of us?" Kelsey asked handing John her phone.
He agreed and Kelsey and I stepped back to the wall and posed together. He snapped the picture and showed us, we looked good I'll have to admit.
"Thank you." I told John and went to walk off with Kelsey.
"Reece wait!" Case said and walked up to me
"What?" I asked rather annoyed.
"Can I talk to you in private?"
"Really. Now? Can it wait?" I asked
"No. It can't. Look I'm sorry for how I've been acting. I swear to you. I will not act like that, well I'll try not too. I'll dial it down. Just give me a chance please?" He asked looking surprisingly genuine.
"You're really serious aren't you?"
"As a heart attack!" He said.
"Ok. You've got a chance. Don't take it for granted. Not many get one!" I said smiling a little bit.
"Thank you. I'll show you!" He said taking me in for a hug. I was surprised.
"Yeah. Ok... Getting awkward. I have to go saddle ace up!"
"Oh oh yeah. Let's go then."
We all piled into the elevator an went down stair then made our way to the stalls
Kelsey and I left to go saddle our barrel ponies.
The rodeo had started before we knew it. After the first few event flew by it was time for calf roping.
Case was last out tonight. They went through 14 with a 6.8 winning it.
These boys came to play tonight.
Case eased his horse in the box. Waited for everything to get settled then he nodded and took off after the calf.
He caught him, threw him, tied him, and threw his hands up to stop the time.
"Well folks.." The announcer said, "the number 1 man in the world will most likely stay in 1st with a 6.5!!"
"Yay!" I said a little louder than I wanted but I don't care.
I left and finished warming Ace up. The barrels started and it went from 15th to 1st. They flew by in a flash. Kelsey was a 13.71. That should place good.
A few more went and the reining work champ Fallon Taylor went right before me. Fringe a flying, she took off to the first, she came back with a 13.75. Good run... Oh shit it's my turn.
I eased my hands down the reins and moved Ace into the alley way and we were off. I rode him just how I did the first 9 round and he turned the 3rd barrel with it all still clean!! Yes!!
As soon as we made it into the alley way I patted his neck.
"Hold on to your seats. The rookie just turned in a 13.35!! Slightly slower than the previous arena record that she set in round 6! Wow! That is a team!"
"Oh my gosh!" I said and hugged ace on his neck. I'm not gonna lie I started crying. "We made it here and set a record. Oh my gosh." I said to Ace
After the victory lap and After being surrounded with congratulations I finally got to see Kelsey.
"Oh my gosh Reece. I'm so proud!!" She said smiling and hugging me.
"Thank you. I can't believe it! Oh my goodness!"
I cooled off Ace, put on his vetrolin and put him in his stall after a few extra treats we headed back up to the arena for the awards to be given out.
We got up there an waited and it was calf ropings Time. Of course Case won the world with John as the Reserve Champion.
Saddle bronc went by in a flash and it was time for barrel racing. They called everyone out from 15th to 1st and it got to the last two. Me and Lisa Lockhart.
"Moment a bunch of you ladies have been waiting for... Your reserve barrel racing champion is... Lisa Lockhart!" The announcer boomed
She went and collected her things then it was time for the world champion
"Your world champion is.. oh my, REECE WALKER"
I jumped up and squealed a bit. I gave the announcer a huge hug then went over to take pictures with my saddle!
I tried to fight off the tears about to fall.
"Don't cry!" I saw Case mouth
"I'm trying not too" I mouthed back.
After a few pictures and congratulations, Case came up to me.
"Kelsey, can you take a picture of me and my favorite Betty Barrel Racer" he said and threw an arm around my shoulder.
"Sure thing!" She said and took his phone
I put my arm around his back and smiled.
She took the picture and handed it back
"Aww that's a good picture!" I said
"I'm gonna post this on Instagram with the hashtag #RodeoPowerCouple" he said smiling down at me
All I could do was shake my head and smile back.
It was a great night.
