The evening was quiet, the soft hum of the city outside barely reaching Axel's studio. She was alone, tucked away in her personal space, surrounded by instruments, notebooks, and scattered sheets of paper. The room was a reflection of Axel herself—chaotic in its own way, yet full of potential. The low lighting gave the place an intimate feel, the soft glow from the string lights that crisscrossed above casting a warm, gentle light on the room.

Axel sat in her chair, her guitar cradled in her lap, fingers gently strumming the strings. The song had been with her for days now, an idea that refused to leave her mind. But today, it felt closer than ever—closer to something real. She had been humming the melody for hours, tweaking the lyrics, letting the words flow, but nothing had felt quite finished.

Axel opened her phone and re-read the last message from Freya.

Freya: “You’ve got this, Axel. No matter what you create, it’ll be amazing. Just trust yourself.”

She smiled at the message. Her fingers hesitated over the strings for a moment, the weight of the unspoken expectations hanging in the air. But she couldn’t stop now. She adjusted her grip and started strumming the familiar chords again, letting the music fill the space around her.

Her voice joined the guitar, tentative at first but gaining confidence as she went along. The words poured out, raw and unfiltered, as if they were waiting to be set free. It was a song about pretending, about hiding behind a mask, pretending everything was okay when it wasn’t. Axel sang about the walls she built, about the insecurities that no one saw.

As she sang, she lost track of time, her voice growing bolder with every line. She was fully immersed in the music, in the catharsis of it all. Her eyes were closed, and she felt the song in every part of her, the vulnerability laid bare in the lyrics. It felt right.

But then, just as she was reaching the bridge, she heard a soft sound from the doorway. Axel froze mid-note.

"Hey, didn’t mean to interrupt," came the familiar voice of Freya, soft but warm, standing just inside the room.

Axel's heart skipped a beat, a rush of heat flooding her cheeks. She hadn’t realized Freya was there, hadn't heard her footsteps approaching. For a moment, she just stared at her, unsure how to continue. The vulnerability of the song suddenly felt exposed in a way she hadn’t anticipated. She cleared her throat, trying to mask the awkwardness with a small, nervous chuckle.

"Uh, hey," Axel said, setting her guitar down gently. "Sorry, didn’t know you were listening."

Freya smiled, stepping further into the room. "I didn’t mean to eavesdrop," she said, her tone playful. "But I was curious what you were working on."

Axel hesitated, glancing at the notebook in front of her, her hands fidgeting. "It’s just something I’ve been messing around with. I don’t know if I should even put it out."

Freya walked over, sitting next to her. She looked at the page Axel had been writing on and then back at her. "I think it sounds great," she said honestly, her voice filled with warmth. "You were really into it. You looked like you were losing yourself in the song. That’s when you know it’s real."

Axel’s lips curved into a faint smile, her shoulders relaxing a little. She hadn’t realized how much she needed to hear that. "You think so?" she asked, still unsure.

"I know so," Freya replied, her gaze unwavering. "If it means something to you, then it’ll mean something to others. You don’t have to overthink it. Just put it out. The world will hear it."

Axel’s hands hovered over her guitar again, the familiar chords comforting her. "I guess I was just… worried it wouldn’t be enough," she admitted quietly. "You know, like I’m trying to do this on my own, and I’m not sure if it’ll live up to what I’ve done before."

Freya gently placed a hand on Axel’s shoulder, her touch grounding. "You don’t need to compare it to anything else. This is your story, your voice. And no one else can tell it the way you can."

Axel turned to look at her, a slight grin playing on her lips. "You’re really good at this whole ‘cheerleader’ thing, aren’t you?"

Freya laughed softly, nudging her playfully. "I just know what you’re capable of."

There was a moment of silence between them, one that wasn’t uncomfortable, but filled with understanding. Axel could feel the weight lifting off her shoulders, the anxiety of trying to be perfect slowly fading.

After a few seconds, she let out a long breath, turning back to her guitar. "Alright, maybe I will put it out then. Just… need a little more time to make it right."

Freya smiled, standing up. "Take all the time you need. Just remember, you don’t have to do this alone. You’ve got people who believe in you. I’m one of them."

Axel chuckled, looking at Freya with gratitude. "Thanks. Really."

Freya gave her a quick wink before walking toward the door. "I’ll leave you to it then. But hey, don’t overthink it too much, alright? The best things happen when you just go with it."

Axel watched her leave, the door clicking softly behind her. She turned back to the guitar, strumming a few more chords, the melody slowly coming to life again. This time, she felt lighter—freer to express whatever came to her.

With the pressure of perfection now gone, Axel began to sing again, the words flowing more easily, the notes carrying the weight of her feelings. She wasn’t pretending anymore. This was her truth.
