The night was thick with tension as Freya walked toward Lucas’s apartment. The city around her was asleep, but her mind was racing. Axel’s face—confused, hurt, angry—kept flashing in front of her eyes. Every word Lucas had planted in her head like a seed of doubt was now sprouting in ways she couldn’t ignore. But tonight, this was going to end. Lucas had played his games long enough. He had underestimated her. And now she was ready to make him regret it.

She could still hear Lucas’s smug voice in her ear from earlier in the week, his words dripping with malice as he shared pictures and fabricated messages, all designed to make Axel question her. He had been so meticulous, so careful with his lies, that even she had been caught off guard for a moment. But the truth burned hot in her chest, and she wasn’t going to let him get away with it.

Freya knocked twice, her knuckles landing sharply against the door. She wasn’t nervous. Not anymore. She was beyond that now. She was angry. Furious. And Lucas needed to understand that there were consequences to crossing her.

The door creaked open, and there he stood—Lucas, wearing his usual smirk, dressed in an unbuttoned shirt and loose jeans. The smugness in his eyes faltered when he saw her expression, but he quickly masked it with a glib smile.

"Freya," he said, leaning against the doorframe. "I wasn't expecting you. You finally decided to take me up on my offer?"

She didn’t waste time with pleasantries. She barged inside, brushing past him with force. "Cut the act, Lucas. You’ve been playing me for a fool, and I’m done with it." Her voice was low, controlled, but laced with rage. "I know what you’ve been doing."

Lucas’s face flickered with something that resembled fear for the briefest of moments. It was gone before he could hide it, replaced by his usual arrogance. "What are you talking about, Freya? You came all the way here to accuse me of something?" His tone was mocking, but she could see the sweat on his brow. He knew she had him.

"I know about the photos. The fake messages. All of it," she spat, her eyes narrowing. "You’ve been trying to tear apart everything I have with Axel, and I’m not going to let you get away with it." She stepped closer, her voice a little louder now, filled with venom. "What the hell is wrong with you? Why can’t you accept that it’s over between us?"

Lucas swallowed, taking a small step back. He recovered quickly, though, the smile returning to his lips. "Freya, you’ve always been so dramatic. It’s not like I was doing anything out of line. I’m just helping you out. Axel needed to see the truth, and I was the one who showed her."

Freya’s hands clenched into fists, and she could feel the fury bubbling up inside her. She took a deep breath, steadying herself, before stepping into his space, closing the distance. "You think this is about helping me? About saving me? You’re sick, Lucas. You think you have the right to decide who I’m with? You think you can control me? You can’t. Not anymore."

Her words cut through the air like a blade. Lucas’s confident façade began to crack as she spoke, his hands twitching at his sides. "You think Axel is going to believe you over me, Lucas?" she continued, her voice rising. "You think that she’s just going to turn her back on me because of your lies? I’ve been with Axel for months now. She knows me better than anyone, and I know she will never doubt me like that. But you... You’re nothing more than a petty ex who can’t let go."

Lucas’s face tightened. He opened his mouth to speak, but Freya wasn’t finished.

"You’ve been obsessed with me for years," she growled, "and I let you drag me into your little web before. But that’s not happening anymore. You’re not going to mess with my life like you did before." She took another step forward, now standing directly in front of him. "You want to destroy what I have with Axel? Fine. But know this—you’ll never win. I’m not afraid of you."

Lucas’s smile faltered completely now. He looked taken aback, as if for the first time, Freya wasn’t the one cowering or afraid of the consequences. She could see the wheels turning in his mind as he considered his next move, but Freya wasn’t about to give him the opportunity.

"You’ve done enough," she said firmly. "And if you try anything like this again, I will make sure the world knows who you really are. I will expose your lies. I will show Axel what kind of sick, manipulative person you are. This game ends here, Lucas. You’re out. And I’m not backing down."

He opened his mouth to argue, but the look in her eyes silenced him. He could see that she meant every word, that she was prepared to go to whatever lengths necessary to protect Axel, to protect their relationship.

Freya turned away and walked toward the door, but Lucas’s voice stopped her just before she could leave.

"Do you really think you can just walk away from me like this? That Axel will stick around after all of this?"

She turned back slowly, her eyes cold and unwavering. "I don’t need to explain myself to you. Axel and I are stronger than your stupid little games. You’ll see that soon enough."

With that, Freya stepped out of the apartment, her heart pounding in her chest. She could still feel the weight of Lucas’s presence in the room, but it no longer held any power over her. He could try whatever he wanted, but she knew she had won. He had no hold on her anymore.

The city felt quieter now, the air heavy with the weight of what she had just done. But Freya wasn’t done. The next step was the hardest one—she had to find Axel. She had to make things right. No matter how much Lucas had tried to tear them apart, Freya knew one thing for certain: Axel was the one. And nothing, not even Lucas’s petty schemes, was going to change that.
