The living room of the villa was dimly lit, the golden glow of fairy lights casting a cozy yet mischievous atmosphere. Empty bottles of soda and half-eaten snacks were scattered across the table as the group gathered in a circle, the excitement palpable.
NingNing clapped her hands together, her grin wide. "Alright, everyone! Truth or dare, but with a twist! If you skip a dare or refuse to answer a truth, you drink. And no weak drinks, either. Shots only!"
"Is this even a good idea?" Jisung asked, already looking nervous.
"No," Shuhua said with a smirk. "That's why it's perfect."
Jay rubbed his hands together, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Let's make this interesting. No safe truths, and no easy dares."
Chaeryeong sat cross-legged beside NingNing, fidgeting with the hem of her sweater. She avoided looking at Taehyun, who was seated directly across from her, his brooding presence impossible to ignore.
"Don't chicken out, Chaeryeong," NingNing teased, nudging her.
Chaeryeong forced a smile. "I won't."
Jay spun an empty bottle in the center of the circle. It twirled around before landing on NingNing.
"Truth or dare?" Shuhua asked, her tone daring.
NingNing grinned. "Dare."
Shuhua's eyes sparkled. "I dare you to prank call your manager and tell them you accidentally adopted a stray dog."
NingNing burst into laughter. "Easy." She grabbed her phone and, without hesitation, dialed the number. The room erupted into muffled giggles as NingNing delivered the most convincing plea, her voice trembling with fake panic.
After the call, the bottle spun again, this time landing on Taehyun.
Jay leaned forward, his grin widening. "Truth or dare, lover boy?"
Taehyun's jaw tensed. "Dare."
Jay's smirk turned devilish. "I dare you to kiss someone in this room. Your choice."
The group gasped, their eyes darting between Chaeryeong and Taehyun.
Chaeryeong's breath hitched, her cheeks flaming as she avoided his gaze. Taehyun, however, stayed perfectly still, his expression unreadable.
"Drink," Taehyun said flatly, reaching for the shot glass.
"Boring," Jay muttered, shaking his head as Taehyun downed the drink in one go.
The game continued, growing bolder with each round. Jisung ended up serenading a broom, Shuhua danced on the coffee table, and Jay spilled a humiliating secret about a failed confession in high school.
Finally, the bottle landed on Chaeryeong.
"Truth or dare?" Jay asked, his voice full of mischief.
"Truth," Chaeryeong said, feeling safer with the option.
Jay's grin turned wicked. "Who was your first love?"
The room fell silent.
Chaeryeong's throat went dry, and her eyes darted toward Taehyun instinctively before she caught herself. "I'm not answering that."
"Drink!" NingNing crowed, pouring a shot for her.
Chaeryeong hesitated but quickly tipped the glass back, wincing as the alcohol burned down her throat.
The bottle spun again and, as if fate was playing a cruel joke, landed on Taehyun once more.
"Truth or dare?" Shuhua asked, raising an eyebrow.
Taehyun's voice was cold. "Truth."
Jay leaned forward, his expression almost predatory. "Do you still have feelings for your first love?"
The air grew thick with tension. Chaeryeong froze, her fingers gripping her knees as if bracing for impact.
Taehyun's lips parted, but no words came out. His eyes flickered toward Chaeryeong for the briefest moment before he grabbed the shot glass and downed it without a word.
"Woah," NingNing whispered, her eyes wide.
"Coward," Jay teased, though there was a hint of respect in his tone.
The night wore on, and as more shots were poured, the boundaries between truth and dare blurred. Chaeryeong found herself laughing uncontrollably at NingNing's exaggerated impressions of everyone, while Taehyun's stoic demeanor began to crack under the influence.
Eventually, it was Chaeryeong's turn again. This time, she felt emboldened, the alcohol giving her a false sense of courage.
"Dare," she said, surprising everyone, including herself.
Jay exchanged a glance with NingNing, and they both grinned wickedly.
"I dare you to sit in Taehyun's lap for the next round," Jay said, his tone dripping with satisfaction.
Chaeryeong's eyes widened. "What?!"
"You heard me," Jay said, shrugging. "Or you can drink."
Chaeryeong hesitated, glancing at Taehyun, whose expression was unreadable. She could feel everyone's eyes on her, the tension almost suffocating.
"Fine," she muttered, standing unsteadily.
Taehyun's gaze softened as she approached, and when she awkwardly perched on his knee, his hands hovered uncertainly near her waist.
"Comfortable?" Jay teased, earning a glare from both of them.
As the game resumed, Chaeryeong became hyper-aware of every movement Taehyun made. His proximity was dizzying, and when he adjusted slightly to make her more comfortable, her heart raced.
By the time the bottle landed on Jisung again, everyone was too drunk to care about rules. The game dissolved into chaotic laughter and teasing, but Chaeryeong couldn't focus on anything other than the steady warmth of Taehyun beneath her.
At one point, he leaned closer, his voice a low murmur in her ear. "Are you okay?"
She nodded, though her pulse was hammering in her throat. "Yeah. Are you?"
Taehyun hesitated before replying, "I don't know."
Her heart sank at the vulnerability in his voice, and for a moment, she forgot about the others entirely. The tension between them was unbearable, years of unresolved emotions bubbling to the surface.
The laughter from the restaurant grew quieter as the night pressed on, but the energy was still palpable. The group was starting to mellow, the effects of alcohol softening their chatter into lazy conversation. The restaurant, located right by the beach, had its large windows open, allowing the salty ocean breeze to filter in.
The night grew quieter as Chaeryeong slipped away from the restaurant, grabbing a bottle of beer as she passed the counter. The beach, just a short walk from the restaurant, was empty, the sound of the waves filling the silence. She opened the bottle and took a long swig, letting the cold liquid burn down her throat, trying to calm her restless mind.
Behind her, the door creaked open, and Taehyun appeared, his eyes locking onto her figure. Without a word, he stepped onto the sand, following her at a distance.
Chaeryeong didn't notice him at first, lost in the rhythmic waves. When the sound of his footsteps grew closer, she knew he was there. She took another sip from her bottle, not stopping, but feeling his presence beside her. They walked in silence, the cool breeze brushing against them, both lost in their thoughts yet not quite alone.
The night wasn't over, and neither was their story—not yet.
