What did he mean by that? Diane thought as she got down from the train that evening. Her house was just a few blocks away and she could easily walk down there. The streetlights brightened her path with each step she took. She made her way to her house still pondering on his words.
"For now, I just need you to shut all other voices and trust me. Especially the ones in your head. Understood?"
Easier said than done was the case here. Getting past her front door, she made her way to her bathroom and changed into a comfortable pair of pajamas.
"Just make sure you don't go to bed early tonight."
She glanced at her watch as she sat on her sofa that night, watching the evening news. 8:30pm. Oh well, she'd just have to wait and see. He was probably going to call her and have a late night chat. Why did that tingle a sort of excitement within her guts? He was so unpredictable these days that anything was possible.
Before she knew it, the soft hum of the news lulled her to sleep, her head resting against the couch's armrest. The flickering images of the evening broadcast danced across the room but her mind had drifted far from it and she only fell deeper into slumberland whilst forgetting Russo's words.
Diane had no idea how long she had been asleep for until a sharp sound jolted her awake—the doorbell. Groggy and disoriented, she glanced at the clock. Thirty minutes had passed. The news anchor's voice was still murmuring in the background as she rose and shuffled to the door, her steps cautious.
When she opened it, the sight before her was unexpected. There stood a tall man in a tailored black suit, his posture composed, a polished black Mercedes gleaming behind him. He held a large, elegant black box, tied neatly with a crimson ribbon. On top was a bouquet of velvety roses, their fragrance subtle yet intoxicating. She blinked in confusion.
"Miss Diane Alvarin." The man said with a respectful nod.
Her brows furrowed in confusion. "Yes? Who are you?"
"I've been sent by General Fedorcenko." He replied evenly. "He asked me to deliver these to you and escort you to dinner."
"What? Dinner? What dinner?"
The driver simply smiled. "You'll understand when you arrive, miss."He stretched out his hands to her and she took the package from him and returned inside as he waited for her. Slimy little bastard what was he up to? She thought, not being able to help the smile creeping up both sides of her lips.
Gasp!
The inside of the package stunned her. Inside was a black evening gown, the fabric silky and luxurious was paired with matching heels along with matching jewelries. All the latest designs of freaking Dior!"Get it together, Diane. He can't simply win you over with money."
But this was much more than the money wasn't it? It was all the effort he put into it and in less than twenty four hours? Plus the dress was simply gorgeous as it sparkled here and there like a thousand sapphires spread across the night's sky.
"Okay, Diane. " She sighed. "Let's go see if he's worth giving a chance."
Oh what the fuck was she even talking about? This was over the top IMPRESSIVE!!!!!Minutes later, she came out of the house fully dressed and by the way the dress hugged her figure perfectly, she could tell this man must have been dying to see her in a dress. Not like she wasn't grateful he sent her something to wear. She had absolutely nothing that was dinner worthy. Right now, she never thought she could have looked more feminine.
