For the first time I questioned my ways. He said I was running.
I knew I was.
But when he said it, and he made it clear his desires for me to stay, I thought 'I am my father's daughter.'
Was I always just running?
So I told him, "I don't want to run anymore."
All he said was "Okay."
Everything with him seemed so simple. Like there was an answer to everything.
I told him.
"How do you do it?" I titled my head a little . I was trying to figure it out myself. Trying to read him the way he does me.
"I don't think."
"How do you know what I meant?"
"I don't know. Don't care either."
"How can you not think?"
"Feel. That's how."
"Show me. Show me how. "

I never realized how much I was draining myself of emotions. We went to the zoo. He did so many silly things. Chirped with the birds. Made monkey faces everywhere. But it wasn't until he started talking to the elephant that I finally laughed.
"Finally! Good Job, E!" He had said. Almost going over restricted areas to high five an elephant.
"E?"
"Yeah. As in Elephant." He looked at me as though I was the crazy one for not getting the nickname .I laughed even more.
His smile grew even more. If that's possible. He pulled me towards a hotdog stand just outside of the zoo, still smiling and me just screaming with all the excitement of a three year old.
"Is it good?"
"Yeah. I mean for a food stand just outside..."
"No." He stops me. "Feeling. Is it good?"
I look up at him and the sun shines behind his back. For the first time in a long time, I felt...more.
"Yeah. Yeah, it's good."
